Exclusive: Caitlin opens up about the moment Shannon admitted he was 'still in love' with his ex on Married At First Sight 2023

During Episode 7 of Married At First Sight, the nation watched on in shock as Shannon admitted to Caitlin that he still had feelings for his ex-fiancée.

After Caitlin overheard her husband making a distraught phone call to his ex – his on-again-off-again partner of seven years, with whom he shares a child – she pushed for some answers.

But the bride got more than she bargained for when Shannon revealed he was "still in love" with the woman in question.

In an exclusive interview with 9Entertainment, Caitlin explained the aftermath of that moment as well as the reasoning behind her unusual reaction to the news.

Caitlin admitted that the revelation was "hard to hear" .

"The thing that hit the hardest was that this was supposed to be my opportunity to find love, and [it felt like] it was now potentially non-existent or maybe never existed if he came in here loving his ex," Caitlin explained.

She said she went from feeling "so optimistic" on her wedding day to feeling like she "never really stood a chance".

Having been in relationships where the ex was still in the picture, Caitlin said she was frustrated that history was repeating itself.

"I had been in this position before. I have never been somebody's first choice or somebody's special person and here I was yet again in the experiment in that same situation," she said.

"It was a hard pill to swallow."

Despite being hit with a bombshell that could potentially jeopardise her whole relationship, Caitlin decided to comfort Shannon in that moment rather than lash out.

"As hard as it was hitting me, it wasn't about me," Caitlin said.

"I could see that the person in front of me was in pain and I'm not someone who can just sit there and watch that. I decided to put myself second and cry about it later.

"I didn't want him to see me upset when he seemed to have enough going on."

After Shannon left the room, Caitlin broke down in front of cameras confused about what the revelation meant for her and Shannon's relationship.

"I don't know where that leaves me," she cried.
