Love Island UK winners Millie Court and Liam Reardon announce shock split

Love Island UK's Millie Court and Liam Reardon have split.

The couple, who won the 2021 season of the hit show, took to their respective Instagram accounts to share the news with their fans.

Millie, 25, and Liam, 22, who have been living together for just over eight months, called it quits after growing apart.

"Hi everyone, to avoid any speculation Liam and I wanted to share with you that we have separated," Millie's statement started.

"It's been a tough decision and I am gutted but it's ultimately what is best for us right now.

"Thank you to every single one of you for supporting our relationship. Nothing will ever take away from the amazing experience we shared in Love Island & the past year and I wish Liam all the best in everything he does.

"We're both ready for new chapters and I'm excited for what's next. Love, Millie."

The sentiment about staying friends was echoed in Liam's post, and he stressed that they have drifted apart and will always remain friends.

"Hi everyone, to avoid any speculation Millie and I wanted to share with you that we have sadly separated. Honestly so gutted," Liam wrote.

"But thank you to every single one of you for supporting our relationship. Nothing will ever take away from the amazing experience we shared in Love Island & the past year we've been so lucky to both come into each other's lives.

"We both will continue to be friends and I will remain as Millie's biggest supporter in all that she does and I know she will always do amazing.

"We're both ready for new chapters and I'm excited for what's next. Again I just want to thank you all for supporting us on what's been an incredible journey. X."

The breakup announcement comes just two weeks after the couple were sharing loved-up snaps from a recent wedding they attended together.

In another recent post, Millie cuddled up to Liam as they soaked up the sunshine together. From their recent posts, it seemed like the pair were as happy as ever.

Millie and Liam were the winners of Season 7 of Love Island UK.

Viewers voted them favourites, despite Liam's behaviour during the show's Casa Amor twist. After being announced as the winners, Millie and Liam had to pick from two envelopes. One contained £50,000 ($95,000 AU), the other, nothing.

Millie picked first and opened the envelope with a red heart to reveal £50,000. Liam then opened his with the black heart which showed £0. Millie then had to choose whether to keep the money all for herself or share it with Liam.

She didn't hesitate to split it 50/50 with her new boyfriend.

After the the show ended, it seemed like their relationship was going strong in the outside world.

In November 2021, the pair excitedly announced that they had officially moved in together.

"Starting a new chapter," Millie captioned a post shared to both of their Instagram accounts.

The announcement was well received with lots of comments of support for the couple taking the next step in their relationship.

"Congrats you guys !! ❤️❤️❤️," commented Millie and Liam's Love Island UK co-star Liberty Poole.

Aside from moving in together the couple did a lot of travel, jetting off to lush locations and embracing their new life as a couple.

Sadly things haven't continued so happily for the pair and we wish them all the best for the new chapters of their lives.
