Hamish Blake creates an epic LEGO cake of all the family for his daughter's birthday - and shares the hilarious all-nighter journey

He's only gone and done it again.

Yep, on Saturday night through to Sunday morning LEGO® Masters host Hamish Blake took on cake-making duty once more for his daughter Rudy's sixth birthday.

Every year without fail, the Gold Logie 2023 nominee creates "whatever birthday cake my child doth request".

This year, he explained that, "my daughter has – last minute – thrown this at me.

"A LEGO set cake, that is of our family, fully edible, as LEGO characters, eating a pink dog cake at a picnic but (and this is critical) it comes in a real LEGO box," he teased.

"It needs to be fully assembled in the box, and also (last min addition) there's smoke when you take the lid off," he added, listing off his aims for the evening.

"As you can see in the vid, I have the LEGO model (I lied by the way, I didn't make it, @mcnaught.ryan did) and I've got a good lead on getting the box made.

"I just have to figure out how to make entirely edible LEGO and create overly intricate characters out of icing. But don't worry, I've got a secret weapon! (Overconfidence) (JK: 🥃)."

Hamish began the big build on Saturday evening at around 8:30pm with a glass of whiskey in hand.

He first recorded himself decorating a large cake base complete with icing and sprinkles on the side, with a special cameo from his mother who was lending a hand.

The presenter then sought out some help from LEGO Masters judge Brickman himself, asking the diameter of a LEGO stud and the distance between them so he could place each dot individually on said base.

"Oh mate. You're in for a big night," Brickman responded.

But this didn't sway Hamish.

"Let's make 256 dots!" Hamish giddily wrote alongside a photo of the process, before craftily taking a children's medicine dispenser to help cut out the holes to perfection.

After what can only be described as a huge struggle, Hamish placed a green layer of icing on the cake and carefully placed each dot on individually.

Then, it was time for the characters themselves.

Hamish took on the task of making himself, his wife Zoe, their daughter Rudy and son Sonny in LEGO – and the results were absolutely hilarious.

"It looks like a bad dude out of a Jason Statham movie!" he said as he started to craft one of the faces.

Hamish later shared a selfie of his distraught face, captioned:

"Where I can't even talk about how long something so underwhelming is taking me."

Applying Zoe's lip colour was a shaky situation, made worse due to the fact that Hamish could not stop laughing.

He then placed the finished figures on the cake, hysterically giggling at how much his wife looked like a vampire.

Hamish finally completed the build at 4:10am, and it's fair to say he was pretty stoked with the results.

"I tried, I really tried," he concluded, whiskey still firmly in hand.

"I hope there's a six-year-old girl tomorrow that looks at this and sees that those dots look a lot like LEGO, and the characters look vaguely like the characters they were requested to look like!"

The finished result is below – and it's fair to say he's done an excellent job.

Earlier in the year, Hamish made another epic cake for his son Sonny's ninth birthday.

He created a mammoth cake that would double as a fully-functioning Rubik's cube.

"This one nearly beat me. Four hours ago I thought I was nearly done, two hours I thought I couldn't get it done. I was a broken man," he said.

We can't wait for next year's epic build already!
