LEGO Masters' Hamish Blake creates 'world's first' solvable Rubik's cube cake for his son's birthday - with a little help from Scott Cam
LEGO® Masters host Hamish Blake has made a name for himself in the baking world, after creating some seriously amazing birthday cakes for his children over the years.
And his most recent build was his most ambitious to date.

Over the weekend, the doting dad pulled an all-nighter – starting at 8pm on Friday and finishing at 6am on Saturday – to create a mammoth cake that would double as a fully-functioning Rubik's cube for his son Sonny's ninth birthday.
Hamish had to fill 26 cubes with marshmallow and rice bubbles, and documented the entire journey on his Instagram page.

Hamish' brother-in-law was on hand to create a skeleton cube via a 3D printer, which the host later filled with a crunchy marshmallow base and allow to set.
However, once the mixture cooled down in the freezer, Hamish had another conundrum to solve – how could he cut said mixture into a perfect square?

"Now we have to cut them," Hamish told the camera. "This question has been battling me... who do you ask about tools? Scotty Cam!"
Hamish then posted a video of The Block host, who gave some stellar advice on how to cut the cake so it would be perfectly shaped for the cube.
"I'm thinking that you would use a very sharp two-inch carpenter's chisel, that you can shave down on each piece," Scotty said. "Anything electric is going to clog up.

"I've got one of those in my garage workshop – you know where that is.
"I'm in Melbourne at the moment, but you can go to my workshop and get the two inch chisel. It's extremely sharp!"
After a quick visit to Scott's house, Hamish cut the cake perfectly. However, he was soon faced with yet another big problem.
"We need to put together the cube. It's 2am," Hamish went on.
"We know that the cube moving is a big part of this, and it gets a bit stiff so we need to lubricate it. But of course the lubricant needs to be food safe, not toxic..."

Hamish then picked up a bottle of lubricant to show the camera, and explained: "What is a great non-toxic lubricant? They make that for humans... personal lube!
"I went to the shop and got this tiramisu-flavoured personal lube that I'd personally like to use for the cake. I don't think this is a weird thing – it's non-toxic, it's edible."
He then proceeded to sing a song to the camera: "You gotta lube lube lube, lube up the cube!"

Finally, at 6am, Hamish managed to complete the cake and was very happy with the results.
"This one nearly beat me. Four hours ago I thought I was nearly done, two hours I thought I couldn't get it done. I was a broken man," he said.

Hamish has previously made many cakes for his children over the years, with themes including Aladdin, Avatar and Pokémon.
He had outlined his plan for this year's cake in a video shared to Instagram on Friday.
"This is my son's ninth birthday, he is very into Rubik's cubing at the moment so he's requested a Rubik's cube cake," he said. "The kicker being, it moves... it moves just like a Rubik's Cube.

"It's a solvable cake."
He added that he believed it might be the world's first "solveable cake" and has been going the extra mile to ensure it works.
"My hope is that the 3D printed skeleton of the cube my brother-in-law and a gun YouTuber (Makers Muse) helped me make will a) work and b) hold the cake mixture in it," he added.
"Slightly baffled? Me too, that's why I'm filming this in my garage because I have to begin in 24 hours and I am in way over my head and trying to get the parts ready.
"I'm going to put the story so far up in my stories, but the actual cake making is tomorrow. Pour a 🥃 and join me Friday night from 7ish! (Maybe 8, I'm usually slow to start)."
