Watch: Scary mountain evacuation required as storm closes in on the trekkers on The Summit 2024

The Summit is a game full of physical and mental challenges, but the most dangerous aspect can very quickly become the mountain itself.

After traversing the toughest challenge yet – a rope suspended very high on the mountain in freezing temperatures and 90km winds – the trekkers continued on their journey to the next Checkpoint.

But before long, the conditions deteriorated even more.

"Mountains are unforgiving places and if these hikers haven't learned that already, the mountain has another lesson on the way," host Jai Courtney warned.

And just like that, a storm took hold.

The trekkers risked being blown off the mountain as the crew at Base Camp radioed the on-site Safety Officer with a message.

The group were not moving fast enough, and they had to resort to drastic measures.

"There's gale force winds coming your way. They're not going to be able to stay up there. We need you guys out of there ASAP," a message from Base Camp said.

The Safety Officer was forced to interrupt the hike and announced they were going to be evacuated.

A helicopter then arrived to take the trekkers to safety – an emergency camp set up in the valley.

They were told they'd spend the night before being returned to where they left off after the storm has passed.

Not that the trekkers need a reminder at this point, but the dramatic moment was yet another example of just how quickly things can change on The Summit.
