Chic new London hotel is a Hilton, but not as you know it

New London hotel Lost Property is a Hilton, but not as you know it. It's part of the famous brand's boutique-style arm Curio Collection.

And you won't see any of the big blue H logos, nor a uniform style, no matter where in the world you are.

Curio Collection hotels are unique, small and a little bit fancy. Lost Property, one of the newest, has a cute 'lost and found' theme.

It's in the City of London, a slightly less touristy part of the capital than you might be used to, and is a minute's walk from the ancient wonder, St Paul's Cathedral.

And with the Coronation weekend coming up, staying in the heart of the city is a must-do to beat the crowds.

Indeed, searches by Aussies for London hotels jumped by more than 210 per cent after the historic event was announced.

THE ROOM

While we were upgraded to a fabulous and spacious junior king suite, a bigger room on a corner which has a sofa and sitting area, the regular rooms are still something special.

A massive 55-inch TV is on the wall for late night viewing, and there's an espresso machine to make your own brew.

Throughout are special themed touches such as the mirror, which is etched with 'not all lost things should be found.'

Handy gadgets like mini reading lights by the bed and USB ports tick the boxes for convenience.

Because the hotel is so small, with only 145 rooms, the friendly staff offered that special personal touch that's sometimes missing if you stay in a huge place.

FOOD & DINING

Breakfast at The Found restaurant was as good a buffet as we've ever seen.

There's all kinds of cereal, pastries and muffins, fruit and salad as well as English brekkie must-haves hash browns, baked beans, and scrambled egg.

Nutella pancakes? Yes please. Supplied

But what really made our day was our waiter asking if we'd like pancakes.

We couldn't order them – with Nutella – fast enough.

The hotel also has its own small cafe off the foyer too, called Tattle.

HEALTH & WELLNESS

The hotel gym has a Peloton as well as machines and free weights.

Runners and walkers who prefer the outdoors should head to the Thames nearby and follow the riverside path to central London.

A glorious hour's amble took us to Covent Garden.

It's not often you can stay right on the doorstep of an ancient icon like St Paul's Cathedral.

The pealing bells on a Sunday morning are spine tingling (don't worry – you can't hear them from the hotel rooms).

It's free to attend a church service at the Cathedral, which was finished in 1711, though entry to have a proper look around costs £20.50 ($37).

St Paul's Tube is ten minutes from the hotel, but it would be a waste to stay in this area and not walk around.

Foodies will love Borough Market, about 25 minutes stroll just over the river via the Millenium Bridge (seen in one of the Harry Potter films), though avoid on weekend afternoons when you'll struggle to even get inside.

Spitalfields Market with its arty stalls is about a half hour wander too.

Our fave fish and chip spot in London, Poppies, is close to that market at 6-8 Hanbury St.

The haddock, chips and mushy peas is the best we've had in the capital.

Shopaholics should also visit the nearest branch of TK Maxx at 33-35 Gracechurch St.

We spotted amazing designer finds from Olivia Rubin and Love Moschino.

If you love London pubs, eat lunch at the nearby Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese at 145 Fleet Street, a dark and atmospheric boozer dating from 1667 once frequented by Charles Dickens.

For a bit of peace (and good Insta shots) walk to St Dunstan in the East church garden.

The church was bombed in The Blitz, with a tranquil haven created within the remaining walls.

We also loved visiting Postman's Park, ten minutes walk from the hotel, which is adorned with plaques dedicated to ordinary people who died saving others.

It featured in legal drama The Split and Jude Law film Closer.

Need a cocktail after all that walking? Book a table at fancy bar Madison at One New Change for sweeping views over St Paul's.

The Lost Property is also on the right side of the city for an easy trip to ABBA Voyage which is in a specially created arena near Stratford.

The revolutionary recreation of an ABBA show from the 70s is simply AMAZING and we'd recommend tickets for the 'dance floor' for the ultimate experience.
