A brand-new flight from Australia to tropical holiday destination Fiji is making travel there easier than ever before.

Fiji Airways has launched its first direct service from the Gold Coast to Nadi, with flights taking just three hours 25 minutes.

The flights run three times a week, with launch fares starting from $599.

Beachcomber Island Resort

A once beloved backpacker haven Beachcomber Island Resort is building sixteen new premium guest rooms at the resort in the Mamanuca Islands close to the mainland.

Some will even have balcony spas, with completion scheduled for September 2026.

Tropica Island Resort

Adults-only Tropica Island Resort has had a makeover, blending “contemporary island luxury with authentic Fijian character.”

Also in the Mamanuca Islands, it has upgraded interiors and restaurants.

New luxury resorts

More new luxury resorts on the way in Fiji from later this year include Vatu Talei – The Jewel, on Denarau. It will boast the biggest pool in the South Pacific.

There will even be direct ‘dive in’ access from pool rooms and suites, so you can go straight from bed into the water.

Na Tomba, a four‑star property on Denarau Island is also coming.

Where families should stay in Fiji

Family favourite Denarau Island needs little introduction for anyone who has been to Fiji.

It’s an area of resorts on the main island, Viti Levu and just 20 minutes from Nadi Airport.

While you’ll have a longer taxi or bus trip from the airport – it takes about 90 minutes from Nadi – it has big resorts which offer all-inclusive packages.

In between Nadi and the Coal Coast is Fiji Marriott Resort Momi Bay which is another popular hotel option.

If you want an island retreat, the Mamanuca Islands can be reached on a short ferry ride from Nadi.

The Yasawa Islands are further afield by ferry, for a true adventure.

Or venture to Fiji’s second-largest island Vanua Levu for a more relaxed, unspoiled experience.

Best time to go to Fiji

There are two seasons: a dry season (May to October) and a wet season (November to April).

The wet season is hot and sticky with torrential, but often brief, downpours, with January through March being the wettest period.

July and August typically offer the best weather, with average temperatures of 26 degrees and minimal rain.
