Best cruise lines for solo travellers to avoid 'dreaded' fee
Often on cruises single people or those who want to cruise alone are forced to stump up double for a cabin.
But more and more cruise firms are now starting to embrace solo travel.
Here are the best options if you want to set sail on your own but don't went to fork out for a single supplement.

Norwegian Cruise Line
9Travel recently sailed on the new NCL ship, Norwegian Aqua, and we were impressed by the options on board.
There are 72 studio cabins on each of the firm's Prima Class ships. We visited a solo studio, which had no windows, but was still super stylish.
There are also ocean view and balcony options. And they're all priced for one.
There's even a private NCL Studio Lounge to hang out in on some ships. The dedicated spaces are just for solo travellers.
Group activities, meet-ups and even shared restaurant bookings organised by the crew, making it easy for solo sailors to mingle if they want.

Cunard
Cunard has a limited number of single cabins on Queen Mary 2, Queen Victoria, and Queen Elizabeth.
They fall within two price categories, Britannia Inside and Britannia Oceanview.
You can opt to dine with other solo cruises, or eat alone. You can even join other travellers on group excursions, if you want company.

Virgin Voyages
The adults-only ships which sail the Mediterranean and Caribbean have both inside and sea view cabins on offer for solo cruisers.
You do have to pay a little more though - but they do reduce the 2nd fare by up to 75 per cent, according to their website.

Royal Caribbean
Royal Caribbean says ships Brilliance of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas, Quantum of the Seas, Ovation of the Seas, Harmony of the Seas and Spectrum of the Seas have single studio cabins.
If you can't secure one though, you'll have to pay double for a regular cabin.
MSC Cruises
European firm MSC has special offers for singles which mean you won't have to pay as much for a room on your own.
Look for cruises offering 30 per cent off the solo traveller's supplement to get sailing without the big price tag.

Celebrity Cruises
With every new ship, Celebrity says it has added more staterooms to its fleet that are solo-traveller friendly.
Celebrity Beyond has 32 solo staterooms with one of the company's infinite verandas, as does Celebrity Ascent. Celebrity Apex features 24, and Celebrity Edge has 16. We recently sailed in a single-occupancy stateroom on Celebrity Edge and were impressed by the space on offer.

Holland America Line
This cruise company offers single staterooms for travellers who want to see the world.
Koningsdam, Nieuw Statendam, and Rotterdam all have a limited number of cabins for one, at no extra cost.
Book early if you want to secure one.
