Autumn is winding up and Australians will soon be thrust into the icy depths of winter.
But there are still a few weeks left of the gorgeous autumn leaves sprinkling our lawns and providing the ultimate Instagram shot.
Canberra is home to some of the most stunning locations in autumn, with several spots around the capital city drenched in orange, red and yellow magic.

Areas around the nation's capital are still in full autumn bloom and there's still time to enjoy a quick weekend away before the grips of winter take hold.
Some of the best spots for autumn foliage are just a few hours drive away from Sydney, or right on your doorstep if you live in the ACT.
Lake Burley Griffin
A walk, run or cycle around the jewel in Canberra's crown, Lake Burley Griffin, will provide ample opportunity to witness the autumn leaves.
The path has glorious scenic views of the lake, which is lined with oak trees that have burst into spectacular autumn colours, the leaves falling down to give you that delicious crispy crunch in your step.

Telopea Park
Telopea Park, which sits on the edge of the lake, is smack bang in the middle of the parliamentary triangle and has similarly gorgeous autumn foliage.
According to the ACT government, the park boasts argyle apple, blue gum, white brittle gum and California big trees, all of which change colour to provide an autumnal tapestry you simply can't beat.
The leaves turn golden at the start of autumn and stay that way until winter edges closer at the end of May.

Lennox Gardens
Lennox Gardens, a park on the south side of Lake Burley Griffin, is home to some sweet formal gardens, as well as a rich tapestry of autumn foliage.
It has beautiful maple trees and red pines that put on quite the show for Canberrans and visitors during the autumn months.
Lennox Gardens also has plenty of amenities so you can enjoy the view with a picnic or barbecue.

The inner south
The inner-south of Canberra, which stretches from Barton to Red Hill, has plenty of cosy enclaves, cafes, shops and stretches of parks with wonderful autumnal views.
The suburban roads are lined with thick oak trees that change colour and sprinkle the streets with bursts of bright yellow, deep red and vibrant orange.
This area is teeming with hidden gems and spots where you can enjoy the foliage, perfect for bike riding or a stroll.
In Manuka in Canberra's inner-south, there is Grant Crescent, which has been described as "Canberra's prettiest street".
It has elm trees that utterly transform into a jaw-dropping autumnal display in March, April and May.

Of course, a tour of Canberra's autumn foliage isn't complete without a visit to the National Arboretum, a 250-hectre arboretum which has panoramic views of the city's breathtaking nature.
You can view some of the tree-lined spots listed above, but from a height - a perfect place to plan your next stop with a cup of coffee from the cafe.
