Novak Djokovic has given a classy response when asked if he's the greatest tennis player of all time.

In his speech earlier, Stefanos Tsitsipas proclaimed Djokovic the "greatest that has ever held a tennis racquet".

On the Wide World of Sports' panel following his win, the now 10-time Australian Open Champion said he was "honoured" to be in the discussion.

"First, I have to say I am so honoured and privileged to be in this discussion. Second, I truly honour and admire the history and all the greats that paved the way for all of us to be here where we are," he said.

"I feel like it's difficult to have a conversation about this because every generation is different.

"You know, 30 or 40 years ago, you played three out of four slams on the grass with wooden racquets.

"Technology has advanced so much. Things have changed. [It's] hard to compare generations.

"But I feel like I gave my best and I'm still doing that.

"So if the people see me as one of the greatest players to ever play the game, I'm very grateful."

When the world rankings are updated tomorrow, Djokovic will once again be No.1.

Considering he's won 22 grand slam titles, he could be forgiven if he was a little more blase about his wins.

But apparently not.

In his victory speech, Djokovic labelled this the "biggest of my career".

"I have to say that this has been one of the most challenging tournaments I have ever played in my life," he said.

"Considering the circumstances - not playing last year, coming back this year ... I want to thank all the people that made me feel welcome, made me feel comfortable to be in Melbourne, to be in Australia."

As Tsitsipas did earlier in the tournament, Djokovic gave Rod Laver a nod as well.

"There is a reason why I've played my best tennis throughout my career in Australia and on this court in front of legendary Rod Laver. Thank you so much for being present tonight, sir," he said to cheers from the crowd.

"Only [my] team and the family knows what we've been through in the last four or five weeks. This probably is the, I would say the biggest victory in my life, considering the circumstances."

Immediately after the match, Djokovic pulled out a shiny custom jacket with '22' - representing the 22 career grand slams - on the right chest.

In the stands, most of his players box have thrown on white shirts with a 10 on - representing his 10 Australian Open titles.

It's caught the eye of some other tennis stars...

In his speech, Stefanos Tsitsipas has proclaimed Novak Djokovic the "greatest to ever hold a tennis racquet".

"Novak, I don't know what to say - it speaks for [itself] what you have achieved so far. It's all in the numbers," he said.

"It's been an unbelievable journey for you so I admire what you have done for our sport. I think you make me a better player when I am on the court, so thank you.

"I've had the privilege to play a lot of difficult, high-intensity matches but I would like to say one more time Novak brings the best out in me.

"He's the greatest that has ever held a tennis racquet for sure."

Tsitsipas then thanked Djokovic for his wider contributions to the sport.

"I'd like to thank you for pushing our sport so far. I think it deserves a player like you that pushes everyone, every single player, every single individual that's involved in the sport to the max."

For winning the Australian Open, Novak Djokovic has win $2.975 million.

Stefanos Tsitsipas will take home $1.625m.

Immediately after clinching his 10th Australian Open title, Djokovic went straight up to his box and celebrated with his team.

"We've seen lots of celebrations from him here, but this one seems to mean the most," Jim Courier said.

"Everything he went through here last year, everything he's gone through here this year - not able to practice with the injury ... Novak overcome with emotion as a result of all of the things he'd had to fight against.

"It's been his body this year. He hasn't been able to practice on off days.

"He's been strapped up and he is just overcome with emotion. It's understandable."

He really is unbeatable in Melbourne.

Novak Djokovic has won the 2023 Australian Open.

"Tsitsipas, I think we fear to say, has not risen when he's needed to in this tie-break," Todd Woodbridge said as he sunk 5-0 in the tiebreak.

He got on the board when Djokovic missed a backhand slice - possibly due to a distraction from a fan who cheered, possibly thinking Tsitsipas' previous shot landed long.

Tsitsipas hit his first winner in the next point, and then one of the mini-breaks back after a brilliant rally.

Djokovic bought up the first Championship Point with a crunching forehand the Greek was no chance to get near. Tsitsipas saved the first by taking all the speed off a second serve, and then the second with a brilliant serve-and-volley.

But with the ball in hand, Djokovic sealed the deal with his own serve when Tsitsipas hit another forehand long.

"It's ten out of ten - perfection for Novak Djokovic," Todd Woodbridge said in commentary.

He has now equalled Rafael Nadal's record of 22 grand slam titles.

"This is a court he was not allowed to play on this time last year - he watched helplessly as Rafa edged him in the grand slam count, but he has tied Nadal now," Jim Courier said.

"This is his house and he's proved it again against very difficult odds."
