Riding the wave of every emotion
Johnathan Thurston knows exactly what it feels like to win and lose a match in the Origin arena. But he tasted far more victory than defeat when he was wearing the Maroons No.6 jersey.
As the countdown to full time neared, the passionate great, who is a member of Queensland's coaching staff, couldn't hide the disappointment on his face as his charges had their dream of a home win stolen by the visitors.
Big celebrations
NSW players unite to celebrate the efforts of Dylan Edwards as time begins to run out for Queensland to change the result.
Match winner
A miracle pass by Connor Watson finds the hands of Dylan Edwards to charge over the line to score the match-winning try.
"Great desperation and the want to make a difference," Cameron Smith said of the try on Nine.
Concern for Crichton
Stephen Crichton of the Blues clutches at his elbow after he is tackled by Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow and Cameron Munster.
The star centre appeared to hyperextend his elbow as he was brought to the ground by defenders.
Queensland debutant
Robert Toia of the Maroons is tackled by Mitchell Moses and Latrell Mitchell.
The Queensland youngster's involvement in the match makes him the least experienced player in the State of Origin arena, having played just 10 first-grade games with the Roosters.
Only two other players in the league's history have been selected with fewer first-grade appearances, being Ben Ikin and Willie Carne.
Sitting on the edge
The NSW Blues coaching box reacts as their team attempts to shut down a Queensland attack.
Maroons celebrate
A costly dropped ball by Latrell Mitchell is swept up by Queensland on their rival's 20m line.
Robert Toia throws a flick pass out to Xavier Coates to finish off the job and the hosts all come together to celebrate.
To'o given marching orders
NSW winger Brian To'o is given his marching orders by referee Ashley Klein for tackling Xavier Coates without the ball in the air.
The Bunker confirms the act is a professional foul and the Maroons opt to take a penalty goal from the sideline.
Winger gets a double
A "Nathan Cleary masterclass" sets up Zac Lomax on the edge to dive over and score his second try of the first half.
Dylan Edwards and Cleary are the first into the in-goal to celebrate the winger's efforts.
King makes his debut
Max King replaces Mitchell Barnett on the field in the 20th minute to make his debut for the NSW Blues.
