The Rabbitohs put up a tough test in attempt to break a 26-year long losing streak against the Storm, but it was not meant to be.

Ryan Papenhuyzen, Xavier Coates, Eliesa Katoa and Tyran Wishart were the try-scorers for the homeside.

The star fullback was penalised for taking out Jye Gray after he released the chipped the ball towards the goal.

Had Papenhuyzen not elected to challenge the penalty call, he may have had a chance of staying on the field.

But he did not and he's off to the bin.

Sua Faalogo has failed his HIA and will not return for the Storm.

The Rabbitohs have been reduced to 12 men as Latrell Mitchell is pinged for a high shot.

Mitchell came firing into Sua Faalogo from close range and has caught his rival high.

"Latrell Mitchell could be in serious trouble here," Andrew Johns said on Nine.

Referee Peter Gough wastes no time indicating that Mitchell was heading for the sheds for 10 minutes.

It is his 13th sin bin of his career.

Mitchell is not the only one who has been placed on report in the stoppage, with Campbell Graham also called out for a high shot on Tyran Wishart.

Faalogo has been pulled off for a head injury assessment.

The Storm are back in front of the Rabbitohs.

This time it is Eliesa Katoa who gets the job done.

Katoa leapt in the air and grabbed the ball before darting 20 metres to score his first try of the night.

Papenhuyzen successfully converts. Storm lead 16-10.

Melbourne have gone straight over the line out of the scrum through Sua Faalogo but his foot went over the sideline before he got the ball into goal.

It was an impressive try-saving effort by young Souths talent Jye Gray, who pushed Faalogo into touch.

But the young gun appears to be struggling after the tackle.

It is unclear exactly what part of his leg he has hurt but he was hobbling on his leg back to the line.

Coates was in the perfect position on the edge to collect a short pass from Sualauvi Faalogo and cross the line.

"That was a nervous roar from Melbourne Park," Phil Gould said on Nine.

"I think they really needed that Gus," Billy Slater added.

"The Melbourne Storm, you could tell they were frustrated before that set."
