Cummins fired too

The finger is up and Pat Cummins has been given out lbw off Kagiso Rabada’s bowling.

He’s reviewed it straight away but it didn’t look convincing.

Cummins was on his toes so height is the question.

Ball tracking comes in and it’s umpire’s call for hitting the bails and Cummins is on his way.

One brings two, like always

Alex Carey is gone!

It’s been a constant theme across Australia’s innings that one wicket means the other isn’t far away, and it’s happened again.

Simon Harmer does the job again, with a sharp catch taken at slip after Carey prodded forward and edged the ball.

Inglis now gone!

Josh Inglis is out!

He’s nicked behind off Simon Harmer’s last delivery and Ryan Rickelton juggles the catch.

Inglis walks off to an applause after making 102.

“An almighty partnership between Inglis and Carey, match defining, potentially series defining,” commentator Cam Ponsonby said on TalkSport’s coverage.

It’s a ton for Josh Inglis!

And he’s brought it up with a reverse sweep through point!

The century comes off 132 balls and his second Test ton after making one on debut against Sri Lanka.

“Brilliant innings,” Graeme Smith said on SuperSport.

The replay shows Inglis was fired up in his celebration too.

“A cathartic exhale,” Pommie Mbangwa said.

Alex Carey has a life!

Kagiso Rabada is looking dangerous!

He’s just had Alex Carey dropped in the slips by Simon Harmer who now has a cut to his ring finger.

The ball just went under his hand and looks like it’s cut his nail.

Carey plays on.

“Tough chance when they’re dipping like that,” Simon Katich said on SuperSport.

“Bit of luck there for Alex Carey.”

Carey avoids a big full toss

Marco Jansen has let one rip.

The ball slipped out of the left-arm quick’s hand and was wide enough to the legside to avoid Alex Carey’s head.

Fair effort from Rickelton to stop four byes.

Nervous moment for Carey

Jansen opens up the day with ball in hand for South Africa.

Carey sees out the first few balls before driving through the off-side for a single.

Inglis also drives for a single as he pushes towards a century.

Nearly a wicket from the final ball of the over as Carey inside edges it and almost chops onto his stumps, but it narrowly misses and races away.

Play underway in Cape Town

Inglis and Carey heading out to the crease now for day three in Cape Town.

The hosts will be desperate for early wickets because if these two keep rolling, the Proteas could be facing an uphill battle in this Test.

‘Average’ display from Proteas

Liam O'Loughlin

Mark Waugh has delivered a blunt assessment of the Proteas’ day two display.

“South Africa were pretty average with the ball I thought, they looked tired a few of their bowlers,” he said on Fox Cricket.

“They didn’t get much from the spinner, Rabada was disappointing and Australia have cashed in on a good batting track so far.”

Rabada, a long-time spearhead of the attack, finished day two with 0-81 off 18 overs and bowled just one maiden against the Aussies.

Smith injury saga continues

Liam O'Loughlin

The situation surrounding injured vice-captain Steve Smith has continued.

Smith was a late withdrawal from the third Test, with plenty of conflicting reports and uncertainty surrounding who made the decision.

The 36-year-old was injured in Gqeberha but all signs pointed towards him playing against the Proteas in Cape Town, even right up until game day.

It was reported that Smith withdrew himself, before Cricket Australia revealed he had a cervical facet joint injury, which ruled him out of the match.

AAP’s Scott Bailey has now revealed Smith took a painkilling injection as a last-ditch bid to play through his neck issue, but it only made things worse.
