Controversy as Green dismissal overturned

Damien McCartney

Cameron Green cemented himself in the Australian middle-order with a well-made 65 against South Africa, batting in a 126-run partnership with Matthew Renshaw.

But he was given a life earlier in the day, when the third umpire overturned a catch in the slips.

In the third over after lunch, Green – then on just 22 – tentatively pushed at a good length ball from Gerald Coetzee and succeeded only in getting an edge to Simon Harmer at slip.

The Proteas celebrated, but Green stood his ground. After a brief consultation, the on-field umpires sent it upstairs to third umpire Chris Gaffaney.

Replays from front-on appeared to show the ball touching the ground, but the side-on view was less conclusive.

Warner’s scatching Marnus assessment

David Warner delivered a scathing assessment of Marnus Labuschagne’s form slump after his latest failure in Cape Town.

Labuschagne’s Test career is hanging by the thinnest of threads after he made a five-ball duck against South Africa at Newlands.

“His form slump has gone from here to there. It’s not like it’s been here, dropped a little, and he’s come back again and scored runs. This is a proper slump,” Warner said during the Fox Cricket broadcast on Wednesday.

Inglis closes in on unlikely ton

Liam O'Loughlin

Josh Inglis is closing in on an unlikely century, after overcoming a finger injury and earning a recall to the Test team in Cape Town.

While he already has a ton to his name, the right-hander has been forced to sit on the Aussie sidelines more often than not in the past couple of years.

Injuries, batting order reshuffles and uncertainty over the XI has meant that while Inglis was always around the squad, his opportunities were limited.

Now, the 31-year-old is just 15 runs away from adding to his maiden century against Sri Lanka last year, in a series that looked easy at times for batsmen.

But you have to wonder if Inglis would have played earlier in this series, whether he could have made a significant impact with the willow.
