Gold Coast rookie Zane Harrison has re-signed with the club for a further two seasons, just days before he would have become an NRL free agent.

The 20-year-old was a rare shining light for the Titans this season and has quickly established himself as one of the best young halfbacks in the game.

Harrison was off-contract at the end of 2027 and would have been available to rival clubs from Sunday if he didn’t extend his deal.

There had been reports he was seeking $900,000 per year to remain at the Titans, though his manager Sam Ayoub later squashed those suggestions.

He is now expected to wear the No.7 long-term after signing what is believed to be a significantly upgraded contract, keeping him at the club until 2029.

“There has been plenty of speculation about Zane’s contract situation over the past month, but what we’ve seen throughout this process is a young man who genuinely wants to be part of what we’re building,” Titans coach Josh Hannay said.

“Since I joined the club, Zane has consistently spoken about three things. His teammates, his love of the Titans and his desire to bring success to his hometown.

“He’s one of the most impressive young men I’ve worked with and demonstrates day-in, day-out the qualities we want as a Gold Coast Titan.

“His commitment to this club and his desire to bring success to the Gold Coast have never wavered since he became a Titan at 15.

“He wants to be part of a team that brings success to the Gold Coast and I can’t wait to see him continue to develop into the best player and teammate he can be as he does everything in his power to make that happen.

“He’s tough to go with his talent and his temperament is what sets him apart as a young playmaker who has grown up wanting to represent his region.”

Harrison is a former U19s State of Origin representative and has been highly-touted coming through the lower grades at the Titans.

The young playmaker made his NRL debut in round 10 this year, finishing with six try assists and 61 average run metres across his 11 appearances.

His breakout moment came in Gold Coast’s upset win over the Panthers, where Harrison kicked a field goal in the dying stages.

Harrison’s extension is a major boost for the Titans, who last week confirmed young forward Cooper Bai would leave the club in 2028.

It’s expected Bai will join the PNG Chiefs for their inaugural season.
