Billionaire’s ploy tipped to pay off with Walker backflip on ‘very generous offer’
The Roosters have pulled their rich offer to Sam Walker – but don’t be surprised if things change in the next few days and they make a deal.
Roosters supremo Nick Politis is among the wealthiest men in rugby league and a master negotiator.

He now has Walker and his management where he wants them and deep down, he knows the little halfback wants to stay a Rooster for life.
The club can offer Walker all sorts of opportunities after football that rival clubs can only dream of.
So it wouldn’t surprise me if he comes back with his tail between his legs… and accepts what was a VERY generous offer from the club.
Watch this space in coming days.
Slater’s son joins Storm
The son of former Melbourne superstar Billy Slater is set to follow his dad into the Storm ranks next season.
Jake Slater is a promising utility back who has impressed all the right people at the club with his talents.
He can play several positions but his preference is halfback and at 16, is expected to play in the Matthews Cup next season.
“He’s a local Melbourne lad obviously and we have been watching him,” Storm recruitment manager Paul Bunn told nine.com.au.
“We have made an offer for Jake in our Junior Academy.”
Dad Billy, although originally a Queenslander, was a one-club man at the Storm, joining them as a teenager in 2003 and playing over 300 games before retiring in 2018.

He is regarded among the club’s best ever players – and now his legacy is set to live on.
NRL player’s desperate surgery
Which well-known player recently underwent lap-band surgery in a desperate bid to save his career?
The player has battled weight issues all his career and was given an ultimatum by his club – lose weight… or else.
Lap band surgery shrinks the size of a person’s stomach, resulting in them needing to eat less to feel full.
The procedure has worked a treat for the player – he’s lost the extra kilos and is set for a big year in 2027.
Backrower to leave Belmore
Promising back-rower Alvin Chong Nee is returning to the Warriors for the 2027 season after a one-year stint at the Bulldogs.
A powerful, wide-running forward, Chong Nee had some good moment in the Bulldogs’ Jersey Flegg side this year but ultimately homesickness got the better of him.
The Bulldogs didn’t stand in his way and the youngster will return to Mount Smart on a two-year deal.
If he produces a solid off season in the gym, he will be one of many rising forwards to watch at the Wahs next season.
