Rishabh Pant's rapid half-century keeps India alive as day three finish looms

Lachlan Harper

The SCG Test is set to last only three days as India bid to post a defendable total after 13 wickets fell on day two.

Rishabh Pant's rapid half-century wasn't even the biggest talking with captain Jasprit Bumrah leaving the field after lunch with a back spasm problem.

Australia started the day at 1-9 and was off to a disastrous start when three early wickets fell.

Stumps on day two

Emily Patterson

That's stumps.

India ends day two 6-141 and leads by 145 runs.

Washington Sundar (6) and Ravindra Jadeja (8) will resume at the crease tomorrow.

The Aussie will rue the late drop that gave Jadeja a life on six. The ball was heading straight for Usman Khawaja!

Late chance goes missing

Webster is denied his second Test wicket!

Ravindra Jadeja sends the ball in the direction of Steve Smith and Usman Khawaja.

Smith dives to his right from second slip to take the catch but accidentally intercepts over Khawaja in the process and neither of them can hang onto it.

"They're too close together," Mark Waugh says on Fox Cricket.

"That's a chance gone begging."

Beau Webster comes in for a roll of the arm as day two draws to a close.

What a day it has been for Webster!

Scott Boland has another wicket!

It's Nitish Kumar Reddy going for 4!

He spooned it straight to Pat Cummins at mid-off and that's quite a soft dismissal.

India are 6-129.

Boland gave Reddy a little look too as he clapped the wicket.

"Scotty Boland gives him a send off too, a little unusual," Mark Waugh said on Fox Cricket.

Cummins gets his man

Liam O'Loughlin

Cummins brings himself back into the attack and gets Pant almost immediately.

The left-hander slashes at a wide ball and edges it behind to Carey.

An entertaining knock comes to an end for Pant.

Going ballistic at the SCG

Liam O'Loughlin

Pant is going absolutely ballistic at the SCG, hitting the Aussie bowlers to all parts.

It forces a change for the hosts, who bring Starc back into the attack.

Of course, it makes no difference as Pant launches the ball over mid-wicket for six runs.

"He has absolutely flogged this," Brett Lee said on Fox Cricket.

Pant goes again the following ball with another maximum and the Aussies are lost for answers as the left-hander continues to go on the attack.

He's moved to 61 from 31 balls now and looking incredible dangerous.

India take 100-run lead

Liam O'Loughlin

Pant falls over playing a hook shot and it finds the gap on the leg-side for a boundary.

The next ball he hits Webster over cover for another boundary and is 34 off 16 balls.

"He has been unleashed," Harsha Bhogle said on Fox Cricket.

Webster gets a thick edge from Pant, but with Carey keeping up to the stumps he can't reel it in and the deflection hits the deck before Smith at slip.

The second innings lead moves to 100 for the visitors.

Pant on the attack

Liam O'Loughlin

Boland switches ends and Pant takes him downtown again for another boundary.

The next ball he charges again but top-edges the ball safely onto the off-side.

Jadeja looks for a quick single, but Pant sends him back to avoid a run out.
