Darwin Test recap: Tourists fuming after ‘bowled’ Green given massive lifeline

A strong finish there from the Aussies after a dismal day.

Alex Carey is 19 not out and Cameron Green has 43.

Australia trails by 67 runs with plenty needed from the rest of the batters to save this match.

Green is currently 40 not out and Australia is 4-150, trailing by 78.

Steve Smith was removed earlier for 44 after he pushed at an off-break and miscued it straight back to Mehidy.

Wow has Cameron Green just been given the gift of all gifts from the cricket gods.

Off the bowling of Taskin Ahmen, Green got a healthy inside edge that clipped his leg stump before running down to the fine leg boundary.

The Bangladesh fielders looked shocked. They all heard the death rattle, but the bail did not move.

Replays and snicko showed there was a healthy nick on the stump.

“Travis Head glued the bail back on,” Alyssa Healy said in commentary for Fox Sports.

“Sometimes you need a bit of luck to get yourself going again.”

David Warner said umpires brought out the heavier bails to ensure they stay on the stumps in the strong afternoon breeze in Darwin.

Cameron Green and Steve Smith are starting to build a nice partnership here.

Green is 11 and looking solid, and Smith has moved to 38. The partnership is 30 off 50 balls.

Green is leaving the ball well and looking solid in defence. He’s also done well to turn the strike over – they both have, actually – and they’re proving to their teammates runs are still easy enough to come by just by batting smart.

They had also just taken the total past the 100-mark.

Marnus Labuschagne is back in the pavilion and the Tigers are right on top!

Taijul Islam threw a quicker one down and Labuschagne played all round it and lost his leg stump.

Labuschagne bowed his head in disgust as he trudged off the field.

Replays and the speed gun showed it was the quickest ball of the over at 86km/h, all the others had been about 80-82km/h. Labuschagne didn’t pick the change up and played all around it.

“I don’t know how Marnus has missed this,” David Warner said on Fox Sports.

“It was a quicker ball, but he’s just straight up missed it. He was looking so good – the best I’ve seen him in 18 months.”

Cameron Green is the new man at the crease, and boy doesn’t he need some runs.
