Day three was a monster for the Aussies in Birmingham, with 11 gold medals, five silver, and six bronze taking the Games tally to 52 in total.

Australia leads the tally board with 22 gold, 13 silver, and 17 bronze after the first three days of competition.

The big story of the day is Emma McKeon, who became her country's most successful Commonwealth Games athlete by claiming her 11th gold medal, surpassing Ian Thorpe, Susie O'Neill, and Leisel Jones.

The Aussies swept the 50m women's freestyle with McKeon winning, and compatriots Meg Harris and Shayna Jack rounding out the podium.

Aussies win Sevens gold

Simon Brunsdon

Australia's women have once again won Rugby Sevens gold, six years after taking the inaugural title at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics.

The Aussies on Monday took Commonwealth Games gold with a 22-12 victory over Fiji in the final.

It's redemption of sorts for the Aussies, who were surprisingly bundled out of the Tokyo Games at the quarter-final stage, along with the men's team. It was Fiji who dealt them that blow.

At the 2018 Commonwealth Games the women won silver, one short of their ultimate goal.

Now they are once again gold medallists.

"I think the team ran out today knowing they weren't going to lose," coach Tim Walsh said.

"That's a big step for the team – to go out with that feeling is something you can remember and replicate.

"They were confident. They played without fear."

Faith Nathan scored two tries in the first half of the final, before her teammates Madison Ashby and Maddi Levi scored to take the margin out to 22-0.

Fiji scored twice before full-time but it was too little, too late.

Aussie cycling star robbed of medal

Emily Patterson

Returning to the track following a shocking crash on Sunday that left him battered and bruised, Australian cyclist Matt Glaetzer has been dealt another cruel blow - denied a bronze medal on review in the men's sprint.

Glaetzer came from behind to storm home against Scotland's Jack Carlin, provisionally securing the bronze medal.

But after deliberating for more than half an hour, Birmingham officials relegated Glaetzer to fourth for moving in on Carlin, snatching away his medal.

While Aussie teammate Matthew Richardson went on to win gold in the event, Glaetzer's stripping split the cycling world with suggestions Carlin had initiated the contact by moving off his line and into the way of Glaetzer.

Aussie cycling great Katey Bates labelled the decision "an absolute travesty".

"I'm having nothing of that," she said in commentary for Channel 7.

"The only time they made contact is when Carlin swung back up the track, and he in fact touched Glaetzer – if anybody got impeded, it was Glaetzer.

"I don't see how the Australians will accept this and not feel robbed. This is an absolute travesty in my mind."

Hockey update: Hockeyroos lead South Africa

Australia lead South Africa 2-0 as Renee Taylor converts a high flick into the side netting.

The Hockeyroos took a one goal lead into the main break thanks to an earlier score from Penny Squibb.

Australia set new world record in the pool

Australia has set a new world record in the women's 4x100m freestyle relay with an exceptional team swim.

Even without Emma McKeon, the team of Madi Wilson, Kiah Melverton, Mollie O'Callaghan and Ariarne Titmus blitzed the previous mark in 7:39.29 to finish a staggering 12 seconds ahead of Canada in silver.

With an unbelievable final legal of 1:52.82, Titmus motored the girls home. In typical style, her coach Dean Boxall rode every moment poolside.

Australia swept the medals in the individual 200m freestyle earlier in the games with Titmus edging out O'Callaghan for the gold medal and Wilson taking bronze.

Games record and Gold in the velodrome

It took a Commonwealth Games record but Kristina Clonan has also added to Australia's bulging medal tally.

She pulled off a stellar effort in the women's 500m time trial to further improve the Aussies' golden haul in the velodrome.

The Sunshine Coast cyclist was up against it chasing Canadian Kelsey Mitchell's leading time but got off to a furious start and was able to hold on to cross the line in just 22.234 seconds.
