Piastri slapped with 10-second time penalty for ‘causing a collision’
Oscar Piastri has been slapped with a 10-second time penalty after the Mexico City Grand Prix after his incident with Racing Bulls driver Arvid Lindblad.
“On the approach to turn one, the driver of Car 81 attempted an overtake on the outside of Car 41. Car 81 was never fully alongside Car 41 so was not able to claim the right to the corner,” the stewards wrote in their verdict.
“Through turn one, the driver of Car 41 defended his position by releasingthe brakes however does not force Car 81 off the track, allowing racing room on the outside – which he is not required to do.
“The stewards determined that the collision could have been avoided if the driver of Car 81 had moved further to the left after turn 1, even if this involved leaving the track prior to turn two.”
Piastri drops down to 15th and out of the points.

Piastri’s nervous wait after crash chaos overshadows historic feat
Kimi Antonelli was crowned the youngest drivers’ champion in Formula 1 history in Mexico, but his historic milestone was overshadowed by a crash-marred race that left Oscar Piastri nervously awaiting the stewards’ verdict.
The drama ignited immediately on lap one when Ferrari teammates Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton collided while battling for the lead.
Hamilton fumed over the team radio after Leclerc was handed a mere five-second penalty while still being permitted to inherit the lead of the race.
The ruling left the Monégasque driver pushing to build enough of a gap to cover his penalty, while Hamilton was relegated to third with Max Verstappen wedged between them.
Lindblad and Piastri at the stewards currently
As Mercedes celebrates their victory, both Arvid Lindblad and Oscar Piastri make the walk to the stewards for their collision.
They were summoned at 17:15pm local time and we’ll bring you any news as that comes to us, but we’re not too sure how long this will take - as the stewards are quite busy right now!

Hamilton still not happy with his team, says ‘serious discussions’ must happen
Lewis Hamilton finished second today but was not happy at Ferrari for that race.
After congratulating newly crowned drivers’ champion Kimi Antonelli, the youngster who took over his Mercedes seat, he said his team will be taking the discussions “offline”.
“Tough day, we had the pace to win today but it wasn’t meant to be,” he said.
“We’ll take it offline and see what we can do in the background.
“It was that (lap one incident) that lost us the win today and I think we need to have some serious discussions behind the scenes.”
