Things are about to start heating up at the MCG.

G-Flip is set to open the entertainment in a couple of minutes, followed by Mike Brady before Kylie then takes over from there.

Staff are constantly mopping Kylie Minogue’s stage in the middle of the MCG. It has no coverage over the top of it, so it’s going to be quite wet when she heads out there.

Hopefully no slipping and sliding for her and her team up there when things get started in about 20 minutes.

Brisbane has reportedly done some preparation for Wharfie Time ahead of this afternoon, playing the chaotic alarm during training.

Not sure it’s going to be as effective at the MCG with 30,000-40,000 diehard fans, as opposed to a packed out Optus Stadium, but we’ll see.

They’ll likely only pull the trigger on it if it’s a tight game in the fourth quarter.

Some Freo fans outside the MCG picking today to tie the knot, apparently!

Might become a bit of a bittersweet day if they don’t win this afternoon though…

Luke Hodge reckons the bad weather will have some of the bigger men "licking their lips".

Speaking on Seven, the four-time premiership player and two-time Norm Smith Medal winner said he used to love playing in the wet.

"The most important thing for every player is to try to keep things simple, especially in these conditions," he said.

“These conditions, I used to love because I wasn’t fast. I’m looking at the big-body midfielders – you look at Freo you’ve got (Caleb) Serong, you’ve got (Andrew) Brayshaw, the Lions have got (Josh) Dunkley, Lachie Neale, Cam Rayner probably going through there.

"Even though the conditions aren't great, there's a lot of players that will be licking their lips."

Brisbane coach Chris Fagan isn't too worried about the wet weather in Melbourne today.

He says he didn’t consider any team changes when he saw the forecast.

“We will stick with the team we’ve got,” he tells Seven.

“We played a game down in Geelong in the middle of the year when it was fairly wet, with the same team, and we handled those conditions pretty well.

“We’re sort of accustomed to slippery conditions. At the Gabba even when it doesn’t rain it’s slippery.

“I don’t know how it will suit Freo and I don’t really know how it will suit us, it will probably be a fairly tight scrap with lots of mistakes.”

We’ve just been given the strongest indication yet Kylie Minogue’s pre-game concert will go ahead as planned.

On Seven’s coverage, the presenters just revealed the stage is being set up in the middle of the MCG as players are starting their warmups.

There was some suggestion earlier if the forecast rain soaked the MCG too much, Kylie might have been relegated to either the small stage in the stands made (in)famous by Meatloaf, or possibly on the turf without the stage at all.

Minogue will play a 20-minute set, and there’s been plenty of speculation about what the setlist will include.

Brisbane coach Chris Fagan pays tribute to Leigh Matthews, who coached the Lions to three straight flags a quarter of a century ago.

Fagan still leans on Matthews and the pair speak regularly.

If the Lions win today, Fagan will match that incredible Matthews feat.

"I talk to Leigh on a regular basis," Fagan tells Seven.

"He's the most supportive bloke you could ever find at a footy club.

"He's been a massive supporter of me from day dot, and maybe the reason I believe in myself a bit more these days."

Lions fans who left it to the last minute to get to Melbourne have been left stranded in Brisbane.

Reduced visibility due to the shocking weather in Melbourne meant air traffic controllers restricted flight movements in and out of Tullamarine.

As a result, several flights out of Brisbane and the Gold Coast were delayed or outright cancelled.

Those delayed are almost certain to miss the start of the match, while those who were booked on cancelled flights will struggle to get on another flight full stop.
