White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, 28, and husband, 60, expecting second child

Karoline Leavitt has made history as the first White House press secretary to serve while pregnant.

Leavitt, 28, shared the news that she and her husband Nicholas Roccio, 60, are expecting their second child in an Instagram post.

The press secretary is standing in front of a Christmas tree, holding her belly and smiling.

"The greatest Christmas gift we could ever ask for - a baby girl coming in May 2026," the caption of the post reads.

"My husband and I are thrilled to grow our family and can't wait to watch our son become a big brother."

"My heart is overflowing with gratitude to God for the blessing of motherhood, which I truly believe is the closest thing to Heaven on Earth.

"I am also extremely grateful to President Trump and our Chief of Staff Susie Wiles for their support, and for fostering a pro-family environment in the White House.

"2026 is going to be a great year, and I am so excited to be a girl mom!"

A White House spokesperson told Fox News that Leavitt will remain in her role as press secretary during and after her pregnancy, making her the first pregnant press secretary in history.

Leavitt and her husband got engaged in December 2023, welcoming their son Nicholas Robert Riccio on July 10, 2024.

Soon after giving birth, she returned to work, deciding to forgo maternity leave following the attempted assassination of Trump on July 13.

While Leavitt is the first press secretary to serve while pregnant, she is not the first mother to hold the role.

Joe Biden's press secretary Jen Psaki was open about only wanting to hold the job for a year, saying she wanted to be there for her young children, aged four and six.

She said the 24/7 nature of the role was hard to sustain while raising a family.

Trump's first White House Press Secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, was the first mother to ever serve as a White House Press Secretary.

She resigned in 2019, saying the pressure of the job did not mesh well with having three children under the age of eight.
