Bridesmaid drops out of wedding over bride's 'unreasonable' request
A woman has been hit with a very unreasonable demand after being asked to be bridesmaid in a friend's bridal party.
In fact she was so stunned by the request that at first, she wasn't sure how to respond, before she eventually decided to drop out of the wedding.
"I was genuinely touched… until she sent us our 'wedding prep kits', she shared on Reddit's 'AIO' thread.

"Inside mine: a diet plan, a 'motivational' water bottle, and a note that said, 'Let's all look snatched for the big day!! You got this'."
The woman said she was floored by it.

"I'm a size 12, healthy, active, and not at all interested in losing weight for anyone, much less to fit into her aesthetic," she explained.
The woman ended up texting the bride privately, in an effort to be civil about the situation.
"Hey, I'm not comfortable being handed a diet plan. I'd rather not be in the bridal party if my appearance is an issue," she wrote.
The bride responded: "Oh my god, don't be so sensitive. I gave one to ALL the girls. It's about looking cohesive, not shaming anyone."
However it turns out it was only her and one other bridesmaid, who is "also mid-size", who were given the weight-loss-version of the kit.
"I bowed out and now I'm being labeled the 'dramatic one' in our group chat," the woman explained.
"She even told mutual friends I 'quit over a water bottle'."
For now, the bridesmaid is opting out of being a part of their friend's special day. Getty
But now she's wondering if she did the right thing by standing up for herself and bowing out of the bridal party.
Redditors agreed she was justified dropping out of the wedding, with some suggesting she go even further.
"Make sure the groom or other bride knows too. They may not know who they are marrying and this could be a needed eye opener," one person replied.
"This. I just read this to my husband and he said he wouldn't want to marry someone who asked their bridesmaids to diet," another replied.

Darcy Allen, General Manager of Easy Weddings, weighed in on the situation.
She said brides often have demands of their bridesmaids but this one is definitely "unreasonable".
"Demands may be in the form of colour or style of dress, shoes and accessories to wear, or length of hair or how you wear your hair/ makeup on the day, however typically I think you know what is expected of you as a bridesmaid and it is an honour to stand beside your friend or family member," she told 9Honey.

Allen added it is completely reasonable for bridesmaids to drop out of wedding when dealing with a bride like this, and she has seen friendships end over situations like this many times.
"Where demands become unreasonable or bridesmaids are left feeling uncomfortable or unwanted I have seen a number of friendships fall out over bridal party drama, it's a high stress environment for all involved and sometimes can unfortunately bring out the worst in people," she said.
When faced with a bride like this, Allen agrees "honesty is always key".

"Looking back post wedding you would hope the bride could see where her friend was coming from and perhaps the intention was good, and execution of the request was poor," she said.
"As the bridesmaid in this situation I would politely decline the position, and wish the bride all the best for the big day and that she would feel more comfortable watching as a guest to ensure the bride gets her vision for the day."
