Wedding DJ's 'insane' contract includes an 'Anti Bridezilla Clause'

A bride has been left shocked after receiving a lengthy and detailed contract from a wedding DJ who subjected her to a three-hour "intro zoom".

"The most insane DJ contract I never asked for," they said on Reddit's 'Wedding Shaming' thread alongside screenshots of the contract.

The bride explained they were referred to the performer by a DJ who had great reviews".

"The 'intro zoom' was over three hours long and ended past 10:00 pm. The next day this was sent to us," she said.

"We did not book him."

The contract runs for four pages and includes extraordinary details about the services they will offer, the many things they aren't willing to do and the behaviour they expect from the bride and groom.

Much of it seems to be based on the assumption brides and grooms will behave poorly if allowed.

The DJ even calls out others in their profession who "just come & Blast Generic Cheesy Line Dances & rap all night" and an offer to assist with the wedding planning, as well as outlining a "17 Page Professional Music Planning System" the couple can fill out to ensure a night of music perfection.

In the document, they promise not to "Show Off" or be "Hyperactive" throughout the nuptials and even detail their planned outfit, a "Navy Blue Blazer & Bowtie".

They then go into extraordinary detail about the behaviours other DJs indulge in that they will avoid, including drinking alcohol, trying to "pick up chicks", and playing music too loudly.

The final page of the contract outlines a controversial "Anti-Bridezilla Clause".

"You Agree Not to become a Bridezilla, have a Temper Tantrum, a Crying Fit, become Melodramatic, become Hyper-Selfish, hold a Grudge, Throw things, or engage in Any Defamation," it reads.

The groom's potential behaviour is not addressed.

And the cost of this DJ? $US1745 (approximately $2,680) with half to be paid upfront.

Redditors had a field day with the contract.

"Good lord. The random Capitalisation really threw me Off....until he threw in that he Also serves as a wedding Coordinator....which is not his Job," one said.

"I didn't know you could have Pick-Me vendors, but color me Surprised."

Another also said: "My eye was twitching from the random caps."

"I literally didn't read past the first point because of the capitalisation. This is insane," another said.

One Redditor commented: "I would never hire someone whose contract is just s--t talking everyone else in his industry lol."

"Badmouthing your competition and past clients is an interesting touch, I have to say," another said.

"I feel like I have an idea of what this person looks like and would loooove to see a photo to see if I'm right," one said.

Of the three-hour "zoom intro", one Redditor wondered: "I'm just so curious what there was to talk about for 3 hours."

One former wedding DJ also weighed in on the contract, saying this guy "sounds like a lot".

"I get that he wants to deliver the message, but this is so wordy. Plus the fact that he had a three hour INTRO over zoom?" they said.

"It sounds like in an attempt to oversell himself he is actually coming off more self-important than the 'most other DJs' that he's comparing himself to.

"There are two ends of the spectrum of sh---y DJ. This DJ points out the end of the spectrum that is apathetic and doesn't care. This DJ appears to be on the opposite end of the spectrum where they care so much that they're too self-important to shut up and listen.

"Show, Don't Tell."

Darcy Allen, General Manager of Easy Weddings, says this contract is definitely "not a standard contract". In fact she has "never seen anything like it".

She said most couples in Australia will be subject to a "booking agreement or contract of some kind".

"Obviously weddings are a highly stressful and emotional time for all involved, so I assume this was added into the agreement after perhaps a difficult situation and as a learning curve to avoid in future, however this is certainly an extreme case and not something we typically see across the industry."

She confirmed DJs are still the "number one choice for wedding music for couples".

"However, entertainment in general is becoming more and more pivotal in wedding planning from additions of soloists, saxophones, and other 'live elements' to compliment the DJ and get the party started."

This can include a DJ with a "live element, such as saxophone or trumpet player, as well as acoustic soloists/duo's for ceremony and pre drinks and canape hour".
