Someone dumped a wedding cake on a Sydney road in mysterious circumstances

A wedding cake has been mysteriously dumped on the side of a road in Sydney, leading to speculation as to the circumstances of the couple in question's demise.

2GB Money News host James Willis came across the startling sight in Gladesville in Sydney's Lower North Shore.

He told Ben Fordham Live he tasted the icing to check that it was real and it has "been there for days".

It's a stunning-looking cake including four tiers, intricate icing work, and what appear to be fresh roses but by the time Willis took photos, some of the icing had started to melt, resulting in red streaks.

"Was someone left at the altar?" Fordham wondered.

"There's a few things people would be wondering straight away," Willis said. "Is the photo real? Yes. I took the photo.

"Secondly, is the cake real? Yes. I have verified that."

When Fordham asked Willis how he had verified that the cake was real, the radio host confirmed "its real icing", suggesting he had stuck a finger in to do the difficult work of confirming that fact.

"Just a tiny little bit to make sure it was real, cause I thought it might have been a leftover Halloween decoration or something."

Willis explained when he tried the icing the cake "had only been out there for a day or so at the time".

"This was a few days ago, it's still there though. It's been out there for four or five days. But the first day it was left on the kerb."

Fordham said he is "intrigued" by the mystery.

"I know its one photo and one cake it just doesn't make sense. It sounds like something ended badly."

Willis said the cake is "really well decorated, it would serve maybe 100 people I think, possibly more".

"It would be hundreds if not a thousand dollars. So someone doesn't just leave this on the side of the road unless sadly something has gone horribly wrong."

Although Fordham's joked that if you are the couple in question, once the "cake is baked, don't you just go, 'We've go to go ahead with this!'"

Willis said a mutual friend of theirs who works on weddings told Willis that "occasionally, maybe once a year, this does happen, where you've got a wedding organised, the catering is done, everyone is turning up and someone gets left at the aisle".

Fordham put a call out for anyone who knows anything further to get in touch on 131 873 to "try and solve the mystery of the wedding cake".
