When a friend or loved one goes on a date with a stranger, it's natural to worry about their safety.

Luckily, modern technology affords us the ability to safely track people's location and ensure they are not in danger.

One woman, named Em, was distressed and confused when she tracked her roommate's location while she was on a Tinder date — leaving her to believe she was either killed or in mortal danger.

Speaking on TikTok, Em explained she checked an app to see where her roommate — called Honey — was at 1am and the tracker revealed her friend was in a canal.

"My roommate went on a Tinder date at 1am so we decided to check her location" was the caption of the now-viral video.

When commenters expressed their horror and wondered if her roommate was okay, Em quickly assured everyone she was "alive and well" and later posted an update.

"She matched with this guy on Tinder Thursday night, they start talking right away, up until Friday. She was telling me and my other roommates that he wants to meet up and hang out," Em explained.

"We were like, okay cool, but you can't hang out with him alone. We don't know anything about this guy and she knew barely anything about him."

Honey invited her date to their share house and the pair went upstairs to talk. However, when Em checked up on her later, she realised they were both gone.

"My roommate Lisa text her and she doesn't respond for quite a long time," she went on. "We were just upset because she did the very thing we didn't want her to do. On top of that, she just left without saying anything to anyone."

Em and Lisa were worried when Honey still hadn't arrived home, so they started refreshing the tracking app to see where she was located.

"At first she was near our apartment, but then she magically ended up on the other side of town," she continued.

"She was texting in our group chat for quite some time, and then she just stopped. Lisa looked at her location and she was in the middle of a canal."

The friends panicked and thought Honey may have been hurt and desperately tried to contact her.

Finally, Honey responded and said she was in her date's car and they were just sitting near the canal — but he was giving her "weird vibes".

After a little while, the Tinder date dropped her back home late at night and she was "alive and well", a relieved Em said.

"Before you go on any dates with someone you don't know, please take precautions. It's better to be safe than sorry. Honey was lucky in this case but that doesn't mean you'll always be lucky," Em said.

"Anything could happen so make sure u tell your friends who you're going with and where. Don't let it be too late!"
