'I fell to my knees when I saw the news': What Taylor Swift's engagement means to a lifelong Swiftie

OPINION -- It's been a long time coming... Taylor Swift is officially engaged.

Get out all your screams now, because I sure did when I saw the news this morning.

As insane as it sounds, as a life-long Swiftie, I really feel like I've experienced every single first kiss, first date, new boyfriend, and heart-wrenching breakup with her.

Her music is so detailed and personal that we really get to feel all the emotions she was going through when she wrote it; it feels like listening to your friend venting to you about an ex over the phone.

And now, after years of kissing frogs, she finally found her prince.

There's a sort of magic in the air now that makes it feel like anything is possible, love is real and hope is not lost.

Aside from that, Swift's music has been there for me through everything.

It was there when I went on my first ever date, when I got dumped for the first time, when I cried in the middle of the night, when I felt like I wasn't good enough, or when I was having a panic attack.

I've grown to love her like a friend, even though we've never met, and that's the magic of being a Swifite.

It's important to remember that just two years ago, Swift was healing from the "loss of her life," when her long-term relationship with Joe Alwyn came to a devastating end.

She wrote her album The Tortured Poets Department about the split, which made several references to Swift "dying at the altar" waiting for an engagement to come, but it never did.

She also referenced being misled in her relationship, saying her partner painted a picture of a married life with children, which wasn't what he actually wanted (according to her songs).

"You s--t talked me under the table, talking rings and talking cradles, I wish I could unrecall how we almost had it all," she sings in her song loml (loss of my life).

In The Prophecy, she sings about feeling like she was fullfilling a prophecy that meant she was supposed to be famous, but she was never meant to find love.

"Please, I've been on my knees, change the prophecy, don't want money, just someone who wants my company," Swift sings.

"Please, let it once be me, who do I have to speak to about of we can redo the prophecy?"

The album also referenced feeling like she was locked in prison in her relationship, as the pair were extremely private in their six-year relationship, and were almost never seen in public.

Back then, we Swifities thought perhaps they had gotten engaged, but we never dreamed of a public proposal announcement - that wasn't the way they rolled.

Of course, we learned the devastating truth when The Tortured Poets Department came out.

She also had two songs added to the album, which she wrote about falling in love with Kelce.

Kelce and Swift love each other loudly and publicly, and it is so gosh-darn cute because we can see that Swift is bejewelled again.
