Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce announce their engagement

Just when you thought Taylor Swift's year couldn't get bigger, Travis Kelce dropped to one knee.

That's right, TayTay and Trav are engaged!

The music and sports power couple announced their big news in a joint post on Instagram, sharing five photos from the romantic proposal in a stunning garden.

"Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married," Taylor captioned the post.

The first image shared appears to be a hidden photographer lurking nearby to capture the big moment before the couple happily pose for a mini photoshoot.

Swift giddily shows off the massive rock in one photo and again flashes her gold ring for the camera as her three-time Super Bowl champ fiance kisses her.

The antique look ring features an old mine brilliant cut diamond, which is a hand cut stone made popular before the advent of modern diamond-cutting techniques.

It was designed by Kelce together with Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewellery in New York City, according to multiple US outlets.

The couple were in complementary ensembles for the big day, which came after two years of dating.

Kelce is seen wearing grey chinos with a navy knit, while Swift wore a white and black striped silk halterneck dress by Ralph Lauren with Louis Vuitton heels.

The pair had disabled comments on their social media post, so they weren't inundated with congratulations messages from their famous friends online.

But Kelce's Chiefs teammates were in a press conference when the news dropped, so Mike Danna was one of the first to share his reaction to the announcement.

"That's a beautiful thing to see," the defensive end said.

"Seeing those happy smiles, happy faces between the two, it's just an awesome time in life."

The NFL congratulated the couple in a post on X, the social media site formerly known as Twitter, but quickly deleted it after tagging the wrong Swift.

It's not known when the big moment took place but judging from Kelce's shorter hairdo, it wasn't over their summer holidays when he grew out his locks.

Swift was first spotted cheering on Kelce at a Kansas City Chiefs game in September 2023 and while they've kept the early days of their relationship under wraps, the singer admitted by the time she attend one of his games, they were already a solid couple.

"We actually had a significant amount of time that no one knew [they were dating], which I'm grateful for, because we got to get to know each other," the Lover singer told Time magazine in 2023.

"By the time I went to that first game we were a couple. We would never be psychotic enough to hard launch a first date."

The couple got together after - in Swift's words - the NFL star used his New Heights podcast as his "personal dating app".

Kelce famously made a friendship bracelet with his number to give to Swift at her concert but was unable to get it to her.

He spoke about it on the hit American football podcast he has with brother Jason Kelce and Swift became aware of his saga.

She made her first appearance on New Heights just weeks ago, to announce her 12th studio album, The Life of a Showgirl, with the couple holding hands and flirting throughout - looking more loved up than ever.

Swift spoke briefly about the start of their relationship and joking that she owes it all to the podcast.

"This podcast has done a lot for me," the singer joked about going on New Heights.

"I owe a lot to this podcast. This podcast got me a boyfriend, ever since Travis decided to use it as his personal dating app two years ago."

The singer revealed that she thought it was a "wild" but sweet gesture.

"It was such a wild romantic gesture to be like, 'I WANNA DATE YOU'," she laughed.

"This dude didn't get a meet and greet, he's making it everyone's problem."

Kelce only recently shared the first photos with Swift on his Instagram account, more than two years in to the couple's relationship.

Appearing on the cover of the September issue of GQ magazine, Kelce spoke about how normal the couple are away from the cameras.

"Whenever I'm with her, it feels like we're just regular people," he revealed.

"When there is not a camera on us, we're just two people that are in love. It can be perceived as something else because of how much it is talked about and how much we are tracked whenever we do go out, but I would say that it's as normal of …

"It happened very organically even though from a media standpoint it was being tracked. It still happened very organically ... When I say it was so organic, we fell in love just based off the people we were sitting in a room together with."

Kelce said the 35-year-old pair share common values and see the world in a similar way.

In the past few months the couple have been dogged by persistent engagement and marriage rumours, which have each time been hosed down.

Now, fans are getting the moment they've been waiting for - a celebrity wedding for the ages.

Though, there are no indications on when the pair plan to tie the knot as yet, there could be a Super Bowl half-time show to get through yet before wedding planning can even begin for Swift.
