Savannah Guthrie's husband has broken his silence, hours after she shared a message about prayer as her elderly mum remains missing.

Michael Feldman told Page Six he doesn't "have anything new to report" on Tuesday morning (Wednesday AEDT) as the desperate search for Nancy Guthrie continues.

The public relations and communications consultant added that he's "just being responsive" but feels "mostly unhelpful" in the gut-wrenching situation.

Feldman did add his appreciation for the media's "thoughtfulness".

The comment from Feldman comes hours after his journalist wife thanked the public for "lifting their prayers" with hers following the disappearance of her mother on Saturday.

"Thank you for lifting your prayers with ours for our beloved mom, our dearest Nancy, a woman of deep conviction, a good and faithful servant," the US Today host wrote on Instagram hours after police said they were looking at the case as a possible kidnapping.

"Raise your prayers with us and believe with us that she will be lifted by them in this very moment. we need you."

The journalist ended her post, a graphic reading "Please pray", with a three-word plea: "Bring her home."

It's the first time Guthrie has addressed her mother's disappearance on social media since Nancy, 84, went missing from her Arizona home on Saturday, January 31.

An urgent search for her kicked off on Sunday, and Guthrie was absent from her co-hosting role during Monday's episode of Today.

"At this point, investigators believe she was taken from the home against her will, possibly in the middle of the night," Sheriff Nanos said in a statement.

"Taken against her will includes possible kidnapping or abduction."

Police now believe Nancy did not walk out of her house on her own when she disappeared.

Hours after Guthrie was absent from her usual gig on Today, the Pima County Sheriff's Department held a press conference with an update on the situation.

Sheriff Chris Nanos said "time is very critical" as Nancy lacked physical mobility, and the scene showed signs a crime had taken place, according to multiple US outlets.

Guthrie was missing from the show, but co-host Craig Melvin shared a statement explaining the situation.  TODAY

"This is an 84-year-old lady who suffers from some physical ailments, has some physical challenges, is in need of medication – medication that, if she doesn't have in 24 hours, it could be fatal," Sheriff Nanos revealed.

"So we make a plea to anyone who knows anything about this, who has seen something, heard something, to contact us. Call 911. We don't need another bad, tragic ending. We need some help."

He explained they had found "some things at the home that were concerning to us".

"We believe now, after we've processed that crime scene, that we do, in fact have a crime scene, that we do in fact have a crime and we're asking the community's help."

Nanos added that they have reason to believe she was "of great sound mind and "did not leave on her own".

Nanos confirmed the entire Guthrie family has been "cooperative" with investigators, noting they have also enlisted the help of other agencies like the FBI.
