Sarah Ferguson offers support to Harry and Meghan: 'I love to see that little boy that cried at the funeral to have happiness'

Sarah Ferguson has spoken out in defense of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, saying all that matters is that he is happy.

Sarah, the Duchess of York, was asked about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and their new lives in the US during a TV interview on Italy's 'Porta a Porta (Door to Door) program.

"The most important thing, and I know Diana, if she were here, would say that, is they are happy. And she makes him happy," Sarah, 62, said.

"And I love to see that little boy that cried at the funeral to have happiness now."

The duchess was close friends with her former sister-in-law Princess Diana during their time as part of the monarchy and until her death in a Paris car crash in 1997.

Sarah was appearing on the TV program to promote her novel Her Heart For A Compass.

During the TV interview, the duchess was also asked about the her ex-husband Prince Andrew.

The Duke of York has been accused of sexual assault and battery against US woman Virginia Giuffre, who says she was the victim of sex trafficking and abuse by deceased convicted child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein from the age of 16.

"I completely stand by Andrew 100 per cent," she said.

"He is such a kind, great man, he is a brilliant father and now a fantastic grandfather. I feel very strongly that in this day and age that we must stand by our hearts, what we think is right with integrity and honour and loyalty."

Sarah spoke of their 1986 wedding, saying: "I was the luckiest girl in the world. It was truly a fairy-tale because I was marrying a prince.

"First of all, I was marrying a man, then I was marrying a naval officer, and then I was marrying a Prince and he was very good looking, a handsome prince from all the fairy-tales. He even had the sword."

The pair share two daughters — Princess Beatrice, 33, and Princess Eugenie, 31.

"I believe that the love I have for him and he has for me is just very different from what normal people have," Sarah added.

"We have great respect and love for each other. It really is our own fairytale and it's our own lives, how we like to be, with total respect and honour to each other."

The royal shared a tweet from her recent trip to Italy, sharing a photo showing her standing next to a Christmas tree along with the caption: "Loved Rome!"

The duchess recently celebrated her 62nd birthday on October 17.
