Queen on the mend after testing positive to COVID-19, holds phone call with British PM Boris Johnson

The Queen is officially on the mend after testing positive to COVID-19, with the monarch holding her usual weekly phone conversation with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Her Majesty held an audience with Johnson over the telephone in the evening as she recovered from the virus, after suffering "mild, cold-like" symptoms.

The Queen performed her usual Wednesday evening duty after several days of undertaking only "light duties" since falling ill.

A spokesman for Buckingham Palace confirmed: "Her Majesty did speak to the Prime Minister."

Buckingham Palace issued a statement confirming the Queen had caught COVID-19 on Sunday, February 20.

"Her Majesty is experiencing mild cold-like symptoms but expects to continue light duties at Windsor over the coming week," the statement read.

"She will continue to receive medical attention and will follow all the appropriate guidelines."

The monarch cancelled virtual engagements on Tuesday, however signed a personal message to Great Britain's Winter Olympics athletes soon after her diagnosis was announced.

Her engagements are being confirmed on a day-to-day basis by the Palace as she recovers from the virus.

The Queen, who is aged 95, is reportedly still reading her papers as part of her daily duties.

She is currently self-isolating at Windsor Castle, where there has been a reported "outbreak" of COVID-19 among staffers.

Her Majesty is scheduled to appear at the Commonwealth Service at Westminster Abbey on March 14 and at a service of thanksgiving for the Duke of Edinburgh on March 29.
