The Duchess of Cambridge has kicked off day two of her solo royal tour in Denmark with a visit to a Copenhagen kindergarten.

The Stenurten Forest Kindergarten in Ballerup is no ordinary school, instead using nature and the outdoors to help with childhood development.

Kate Middleton, who is on a two-day working visit for her early years work, enjoyed meeting the local kids and going on a woodland ramble before sitting around a campfire.

The Duchess rugged up for the winter weather in a chunky oatmeal-coloured turtle neck knit over a beige long-sleeve top, both of which were tucked into belted skinny black jeans, paired with brown ankle-length Chelsea boots.

Kate also appeared to be wearing her trusty Seeland khaki-coloured outdoor jacket, which she's previously worn during a royal tour in Scotland last May and a farm visit in England last April.

The Duchess also sported small gold hoop earrings, which were hidden in her cascading curled hair.

Inside, the royal met those running the series of Danish forest kindergartens to hear how they use nature to help build children's self-awareness, strengthen relationships with others and understand their value in society.

Kensington Palace said day one of the royal's first solo tour was designed to be "all about understanding the very earliest stages of a child's development here in Denmark".

After the visit, it was a quick costume change before Kate went to Amalienborg for a reception hosted by Crown Princess Mary and Queen Margrethe inside Christian IX's Palace.

This was set to be followed by a private lunch for the royals, who are also celebrating the ties between Britain and Denmark during the visit, especially in this double jubilee year.

Queen Elizabeth is marking her Platinum Jubilee while Queen Margrethe marks her Golden Jubilee.
