Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik play tourists as they wrap up busy royal visit to Vietnam

Crown Princess Mary has wrapped up her whirlwind visit to Vietnam where she and her husband Crown Prince Frederik took in some of the country's most stunning sights.

While the two-day tour was focused on strengthening business ties between Denmark and the south-east Asian country, the royal couple managed to have some fun in between their busy schedule of meetings.

Their first day in Hanoi, in the north of Vietnam, started with a solemn visit to Ho Chi Minh's Mausoleum.

Known affectionately as 'Uncle Ho', he was the founder of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam and chairman of the Communist Party of Vietnam from 1951 until his death in 1969.

As is tradition in Vietnam, the Crown Prince couple visited the mausoleum prior to their official welcome by Vietnam's President Nguyễn Xuân Phúc at the Presidential Palace.

The reception also marked the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Denmark and Vietnam.

Then it was down to business with Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary attended a number of seminars promoting sustainability and green energy.

Across the two days, they lead a business delegation of 36 Danish companies promoting cleaner energy and strengthening diplomatic ties.

In the afternoon, Princess Mary and Prince Frederik visited Hoàn Kiếm Lake and the Turtle Tower, located in the centre of Hanoi, where more than seven million people live their daily lives.

Mary, wearing a white lace Temperley London frock, took the country's humidity in her stride.

The city has a special connection to the Danish royals. Prince Frederik's late father Prince Henrik was born in France but spent the first five years of his life in Hanoi which at the time was the capital of French Indochina.

On the eve of the tour, Princess Mary and Prince Frederik were photographed outside the childhood home of Prince Henrik in the bustling city.

Their last visit to Vietnam took place in 2009 when they accompanied Queen Margrethe and her husband for the colourful tour.

To cap off their first full day in Hanoi 11 years later, the Crown Prince couple were treated to a dinner from Vietnamese chef Hoang Tung, who trained in Scandinavia and created a menu that paid tribute to Danish cuisine.

They then attended a gala performance at the Hanoi Opera House where Crown Princess Mary gave a speech.

She wore a vibrant silk printed dress by Etro and Manolo Blahnik heels.

Their second full day saw Crown Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik separate for a number of engagements.

Princess Mary met with young children taking part in a take part in LEGO's 'Build the Change' focused on creativity.

She later toured the newly built Tam Chúc, Vietnam's largest pagoda complex and one of Ha Nams province's biggest tourist attractions.

Princess Mary was there to hear about the province's work with tourism and the establishment of the enormous buildings.

True to Mary's commitment to sustainability, most of the outfits she wore across the brief visit were repeats from her wardrobe, including her much loved cream Elise Gug blouse that has been worn since 2013.

She paired the blouse with another old favourite, a pleated printed skirt by Paul & Joe.
