Those close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have dismissed rumours claiming they were planning to apologise to the Prince and Princess of Wales as “nonsense”.
It follows reports in British media that Prince Harry and Meghan were hoping to make amends for comments they made to Oprah Winfrey in 2021, a year after they quit their places as senior working royals and moved to the United States.

An apology, it was claimed, was part of a wider effort by the Sussexes to reconcile with Prince William and Catherine.
Interest in the relationship between the two couples has intensified after Prince Harry and Meghan returned to Britain in August for what has been described as an “extended stay”.
Their children Prince Archie, seven, and Princess Lilibet, five, are now attending a school close to the family’s new home in the Cotswolds.
Prince Harry is yet to see his father King Charles in person since moving back, but it’s speculated they could reunite before Christmas. He and Meghan, and the children, had lunch with the monarch at Highgrove on July 10 during their summer holiday to the UK.

Harry and Meghan’s return to Britain was revealed three days later and the topic was reportedly not discussed during the reunion, which was described by Buckingham Palace as a “private” occasion.
However, plans for a similar reunion with Prince William and Catherine are unlikely anytime soon. The brothers remain estranged and are not believed to have spoken since around the time of Queen Elizabeth II’s death in September 2022.

The reports claimed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were preparing to say sorry for comments they made to Winfrey in 2021, alleging the royal family was racist.
In that interview, Harry and Meghan claimed there were “concerns and conversations” within the royal family about how dark Prince Archie’s skin might be before he was born.
Two days later, Queen Elizabeth issued a statement saying “recollections may vary”. Later that week, Prince William was asked by a journalist “are you a racist family?” to which he replied “we are very much not a racist family”.
Prince Harry later backtracked on the comments during the promotion for his memoir Spare which included no such allegations.
Speaking to ITV’s Tom Bradby, Harry blamed the “British press” for presenting the story in that way.

In May last year, the duke told the BBC he wanted to make amends with his family.
He said: “Of course, some members of my family will never forgive me for writing a book. Of course, they will never forgive me for lots of things.
“But, you know … I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore.”
A source close to Harry and Meghan previously told People there had been “no movement, especially on William’s side” regarding a thawing of relations.
