Taylor Swift friendship bracelets are the latest popular accessory of choice for the royals

Prince George has revealed his status as a Swiftie.

The future King wore an unlikely accessory in a new photograph taken by his mother, the Princess of Wales, to mark his 11th birthday on July 22.

Shared by Kensington Palace, the black and white portrait was snapped at the Wales' Adelaide Cottage home in Windsor last month and shared with the public yesterday.

Dressed in a suit and open-necked white shirt, the young prince had what appears to be a friendship bracelet on his right wrist.

The bracelet is also reminiscent of the handmade ones worn by his uncle, Prince Harry, over the years, believed to have been acquired in Africa.

It marks a first for an official birthday portrait of the prince to be seen wearing such an item but the friendship bracelet has become an unlikely, but popular, choice for members of the royal family lately.

His younger sister Princess Charlotte wore two friendship bracelets during her outing at Wimbledon with Catherine earlier this month.

And King Charles and Queen Camilla have also been seen wearing the bracelets.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte, nine, are believed to have acquired theirs at Taylor Swift's London show which they attended with their father, Prince William.

The two Wales' children were photographed with the US megastar backstage at her Eras tour at Wembley on Prince William's 42nd birthday, in June.

Swift shared a photo of her royal encounter the following day, wishing Prince William a happy birthday.

Princess Charlotte wore hers weeks later when she attended the men's final with her mother, cheering on from the Royal Box at Wimbledon.

Kensington Palace would not confirm the details of Prince George's bracelet in his new birthday portrait, the Telegraph UK reports.

The UK Times, however, quoted a Buckingham Palace source as saying: "It is safe to assume that the bracelets are to do with them all being big Taylor Swift fans", referring to the beaded accessories seen on not only the younger royals but also the King and Queen.

The homemade accessories have become a popular feature among fans of Swift, known affectionately as Swifties.

In the singer's song You're on Your Own, Kid, from the album Midnights, she sings: "So make the friendship bracelets, take the moment and taste it, you've got no reason to be afraid".

Taking this as an instruction, fans now take the bracelets to shows to swap with their fellow Swifties.

Perhaps more surprising than two tweens wearing the bracelets, King Charles and Queen Camilla were spotted wearing them during their recent visit to Jersey and Guernsey last week.

King Charles' was red and white and was seen poking out next to his cufflinks.

Queen Camilla's was worn alongside her $9000 Van Cleef & Arpels bracelet and the beads spelt out "You're a bright star".

It was given to Her Majesty by Lola Burdett in Guernsey. The little girl's mother, Kelly Hindmarch, said her daughter waited hours to see the Queen.

"Lola's a huge Swiftie and spends most of her time making the bracelets that you see being exchanged at Taylor Swift's Eras tour. She decided she wanted to give the Queen one that said 'you're a bright star' on it."
