Princess Charlotte shows keen interest in tennis as royals presented with special gift from Wimbledon winner

Princess Charlotte has shown a keen interest in one of her mum's favourite hobbies during an outing to Wimbledon on Sunday.

The nine-year-old appears to be just as into tennis as the Princess of Wales, who has been the royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club since 2016.

The young royal was quick to grab a tennis racquet Wimbledon ladies champion Barbora Krejčiková gifted to Kate, who made her first appearance at the championships this year amid her ongoing cancer treatment.

After missing the women's singles final and trophy presentation on Saturday, Kate made up for it with the one-on-one meeting with Krejčiková, who presented the gift to the future queen only for her daughter to keenly take it.

The sweet moment was captured on camera in the members' club section before the mother and daughter duo went out to the royal box on centre court to watch Carlos Alcaraz take on Novak Djokovic in the men's singles final.

Kate, 42, arrived with Charlotte at the hallowed grounds on Sunday afternoon (about 10.50pm AEST) following weeks of speculation over her attendance.

Before watching the match, the pair did a range of meet and greets, starting with members of the Work at Wimbledon program, supporting young people from a range of backgrounds with roles at the tennis tournament.

The mother and daughter duo then met some of Britain's female tennis players including Flora Johnson and wheelchair tennis player Lucy Shuker, who shared a sweet pinky shake greeting with the young royal.

Charlotte, who was wearing a navy polka dot Guess dress, was also said to be delighted to meet 21-year-old British tennis star Emma Radacanu.

While watching the men's singles final, the princess was spotted asking her mum and her aunty, Pippa Middleton, questions and having things explained to her - clearly keen to know more.

The nine-year-old's outing was also filled with animated expressions as she watched the tense match, much like her younger brother Prince Louis has become famous for.

Princess Charlotte attended Wimbledon for the first time last year, also watching Alcaraz win in the men's singles final, alongside older brother Prince George and dad Prince William.

This year the mother and daughter went without the boys, with Prince William in Berlin for the UEFA Euros final in which England will play Spain.

It's not known if Prince George will attend with his dad, who is also the Football Association President.
