Prince Andrew is no more and his life as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor officially begins.

King Charles on Thursday (early Friday AEDT) formally removed his brother's title, using a formal document affixed with a royal seal.

The disgraced royal also lost the designation "His Royal Highness" (also known as HRH) when the King issued a Letters Patent, which is a centuries-old type of document used by monarchs to bestow - and remove - appointments or titles.

Prince Andrew, Duke of York and Prince Charles, Prince of Wales attend the Order of the Garter Service at St George's Chapel in Windsor Castle on June 15, 2015 in Windsor, England. The Order of the Garter is the most senior and the oldest British Order of Chivalry and was founded by Edward III in 1348.

The announcement of the change was published in the UK's official public record, The Gazette, on Wednesday.

"THE KING has been pleased by Letters Patent under the Great Seal of the Realm dated 3 November 2025 to declare that Andrew Mountbatten Windsor shall no longer be entitled to hold and enjoy the style, title or attribute of 'Royal Highness' and the titular dignity of 'Prince'," it stated.

His Majesty also formally removed the title Duke of York from his brother in changes made for a serious lapse of judgement in his friendship and association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Thursday also marked the day Andrew shut down his last link to his royal past with his entrepreneurship program Pitch @ Palace formally beginning the process to be wound down, according to their latest accounts filing with UK register Companies House.

The listing was updated a fortnight ago to reflect the loss of his Duke of York title, changing the name to Prince Andrew, but it's appears that it's yet to be corrected to his new private citizen name.

Andrew's presence has already been removed from the royal website and all of his titles have been formally taken off the Roll of Peerage.

The embattled royal, 65, was last week stripped of all his titles, including prince, in a move made by the monarch, with the support of his heir, the Prince of Wales.

It came following renewed scrutiny around Andrew's friendship with Epstein, after a recent leaked email caught out the former Duke of York in a lie about when their association ended.

Also details from abuse survivor and Andrew accuser Virginia Giuffre in her posthumously published memoir further tarnished the royal's name, though he continues to deny all of the allegations against him.

King Charles said that "notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him", he felt "these censures are deemed necessary".

His Majesty was quick to act on these remedies, including issuing a notice to vacate his residence of Royal Lodge - a 30-bedroom home on the Crown Estate he's not paid rent on in more than 20 years.

Instead, he's being moved to a private property on the family's Sandringham Estate at the King's expense.

His ex-wife Sarah Ferguson who continues to live with his at Royal Lodge will be expected to find her own accommodation.

It's expected Andrew's move will take place early next year, after the wider royal family mark Christmas at Sandringham in northeast England, as has become traditional.
