Why Princess Anne is the only member of the British royals at Paris 2024 so far

Princess Anne is regularly topping the list as the hardest working member of the British royal family.

So we could be forgiven for thinking it's this sense of duty that's spurred on the Princess Royal's multiple appearances at the Olympic Games in Paris so far, despite recently being hospitalised for a horse injury.

While the Olympics are a special time for many members of the royal family, they hold a special connection to the the 73-year-old, who competed for Team GB in equestrian at the 1976 Games in Montreal.

Now, in her post-competition life, Princess Anne is not only a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) but also the president of the British Olympic Association.

This perhaps explains why we've seen the Princess Royal and her husband Sir Tim Laurence attending a variety of sports, including the rugby sevens, hockey and rowing.

Princess Anne even got involved in the medal ceremony at Vaires-Sur-Marne Nautical Stadium on Wednesday, after Team GB won gold in the Rowing Women's Quadruple Sculls.

Princess Anne's daughter, Zara Tindall, also went on to represent Team GB in equestrian events at the London 2012 Olympics, taking home silver.

During those Games, given the location, it was no surprise to see most members of the British royal family make an appearance across various events.

Princess Eugenie shared a flashback post to London 2012 earlier this week, saying cheering on her cousin to a medal was some some of "my most favourite memories".

This year's Games, however, look a little different on that front - despite literally being able to take the train from London to Paris.

While there is still a week to go, which means we could see other royals, like Zara, make an appearance, there are a few people we're less likely to see.

Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie may have been loudly and proudly cheering on Zara in London but as they are not senior working royals, they are less likely to travel to the Olympics to make appearances in any official capacity.

Prince Harry - who was spotted with his brother Prince William and his wife Kate at a number of events during the 2012 Olympics - is unlikely to be spotted in Paris in any official capacity after stepping down from his role as a senior working royal.

His focus is also now firmly on the Invictus Games, which he helped create in 2014 - an international sporting competition for injured servicemen and women.

It's thought Prince William is spending time with his wife Catherine, Princess of Wales and their three children during school holidays.

It's not known if the Wales family have any trips planned over the UK's summer holidays given Kate's on-going chemotherapy for an undisclosed cancer.

Similarly, it's understood King Charles, who is still receiving on-going cancer treatment as well, won't travel to France on health grounds.

Should England's men's or women's football teams get to a gold medal match, there is a small chance Prince William could make a trip across the channel to cheer them on.

He famously attended the Euros finals in Germany with eldest son Prince George last month, in his capacity as president of the UK's Football Association.

The Prince of Wales has since transitioned to a patron role with the organisation, stepping down from his role as president.
