Donald Trump to lay wreath at Queen Elizabeth's tomb during UK state visit

Details of Donald Trump's two-day state visit to the UK next week have been released by Buckingham Palace.

After their formal arrival at Windsor Castle next Wednesday the US President and wife Melania Trump will pay a personal tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, just days before the third anniversary of her funeral which took place on September 19, 2022.

The couple will privately lay a wreath at the late monarch's tomb in St George's Chapel after a formal lunch in the State Dining Room.

Trump, whose mum hails from Scotland was a vocal admirer of Queen Elizabeth's and spoke about growing up in a monarchist household and sharing his mum's admiration for Her Majesty.

Buckingham Palace's itinerary also confirms Prince William and Catherine, Princess of Wales will once gain be a part of the royal welcoming committee.

The couple will also take part again in a carriage procession with the Trump, like French President Emmanuel Macron and wife Brigitte Macron received on their recent state visit.

The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment will provide a Sovereign's Escort for the carriage procession and the route will be lined by members of the Armed Forces, with three military bands from the Royal Marines, the Army and the RAF.

As the carriage procession moves off, the US and British national anthems will be played.

A state banquet will be held on Wednesday evening at Windsor Castle, during which both Trump and King Charles will make speeches.

On Thursday morning the US president will officially farewell King Charles and Queen Camilla before heading off to the British Prime Minister's country residence, Chequers.

However, the first lady will remain in Windsor and is set to tour Queen Mary's Dolls' House and the Royal Library at the castle with Queen Camilla.

Melania will also spend some time with the Princess of Wales, who will introduce the first lady to members of the Scout Association, which the royal is patron of.

The first lady will then join her husband at Chequers before the couple depart following the whirlwind but historic second state visit for US President Trump.
