Princess Vittoria of Savoy may soon be ruling more than just the fashion game on social media.

Prince Emanuele Filiberto of Savoy, Prince of Venice has officially announced that he will soon renounce his claim to the crown for his first-born daughter Vittoria, 19.

Filiberto, 50, revealed his plans to Fox News Digital on June 16.

The news comes after reports early this month by The Telegraph that the prince hinted he would be stepping down from the House of Savoy.

The Prince of Venice revealed the motive behind his decision is ultimately with the hopes to modernise the institution.

"We are in a world where there are a lot of changes, a lot of quick changes, and I really like the approach that today the younger generation can [take on] uncertain matters," Filiberto told Fox News.

Filiberto is the father to two teenage daughters, Vittoria and Luisa, 17.

But it is his oldest daughter that he will be renouncing his title for. The prince has confirmed that Vittoria is happy to be assuming his title – but not yet.

The patriarch clarified that he would not be stepping down immediately until the Princess was fully prepared to take on the role.

"I do not want to, let's say, block my daughter until I become very old and perhaps take some wonderful things [away from her] that she could do."

Vittoria is the first female heir to the House of Savoy in over 1000 years. The official monarchy of Italy was abolished by a popular referendum in 1946, however the Royal House of Savoy has continued.

The 19-year-old currently studies political science and art history at The University of London and has become known for her social media presence as a fashion model and 'influencer'.

Filiberto listed her studies as taking the utmost importance for now.

"She also needs to do her life and her career because we are not a reigning monarchy," Filiberto said, regarding the House of Savoy has not ruled the Kingdom of Italy in over seven decades.

"She has to work to gain money. She loves art history, she wants to open a gallery, she wants to work with young artists," Filiberto added.

"When I feel she is ready, [I would be] very pleased to do a step behind and let her take the role of chief of the royal family in Italy," the prince explained.

In 2021, Vittoria's grandfather, Vittorio Emanuele di Savoia, 86 issued a decree to change ancient customary law to grant the princess the power to eventually lead the family.

"Today, there is no use to have a Salic Law," Filiberto told Fox News.

"My father firmly believes that whether you're male or female, you're just as good to take over. Perhaps the sensibility of women makes them even better to approach things."

Vittoria shared her thoughts in 2021 to ABC News after the decree was announced on her 16th birthday.

"I think it's a very important act, especially now in 2021 where women are standing so much for their rights," she said.

"She needs to study the history of her family and be more involved," Filiberto told Fox News.

"But I really think Vittoria has all the capacity to take over the House of Savoy and bring it to the 22nd century."

When it comes time for Vittoria to assume Filiberto's title, the prince reveals his daughter's primary role would be to run the Savoy charities.

The House of Savoy reportedly spent $1 million towards charity in 2022.

Filiberto says that Vittoria has already shown her involvement and passion for charity.

"Let's say … Vittoria has always been aware of what is happening in our world. For example, [at] the beginning of the war in Ukraine, she immediately went with the Red Cross [to] the border of Poland to … help young people and mothers who were passing the borders."

In March, Filiberto shared videos and pictures of Vittoria accompanying him to the border of Ukraine with volunteers from the Odyssey of Peace association to help provide relief by donating food, medicines and toys for children.

While Filiberto shares that his oldest daughter "gets very cross" at being branded a social media influencer due to her modelling career, the Prince says her social media presence could be powerful for the monarchy.

Vittoria has over 80,000 followers on Instagram and recently graced the cover of Vanity Fair in France.

"She always says, 'No, I'm studying political science and art," Filiberto said, mentioning his daughter has become known for her modelling deals in the press.

"But … if you can use Instagram, TikTok or whatever to bring awareness … it's something beautiful. And why not? [Social media] is important today."

"It's also a responsibility to have a large following because you can really connect with people," Filiberto comments.

Until the day that Princess Vittoria takes her crown title, social media will continue to watch the young princess' activism and political moves as the future face of the Italian royals.
