New Year's resolutions – you either hate 'em or you love 'em.

Many take the time to set their intentions, while others find it too stressful to have expectations for a very long year ahead.

Read on to see our stars' stance on the New Year's Resolution.

Steph Claire Smith, Keep It Cleaner co-founder

I've started to avoid making New Year resolutions, mainly because my past self used to set unrealistically high expectations and which were unsustainable and I would get down on myself for not reaching them.

However, like most other people, I love to reflect on the past year and set goals for the year ahead... which I suppose is the same thing, really.

Next year, one of my goals is to spend more PRESENT time with Harvey – lead by example and spend more time with him without my phone in my hand.

To learn to play guitar. I make this resolution every year!

To prioritise wellbeing and balance, and be present with all that I have in my life and all I've achieved. Life has been really fast-paced over the last two years and I need a moment for gratitude.

Mark Hine, 4BC Breakfast host

I don't like to make unrealistic resolutions, so this year I'm going to be younger, better-looking and healthier. Should be a snap to achieve!

Leila McKinnon, Channel Nine presenter

I have a creative project I've been working on for two years, but between lockdowns and children and breaking my leg I've been slow to get it moving – my resolution is to get it done.

It's the most cliched of all the resolutions, but I'm committed to taking better care of my health next year.

2022 has been really challenging for me, emotionally and physically. Plus, peri-menopause is doing all kinds of weird things to my body. So, my diet and exercise regimen both need a complete overhaul.

I don't have New Year's resolutions because I've never stuck to them. But I know next year will be busy work-wise, so I want to manage my stress and prioritise downtime when I can. Lots of time getting puppy cuddles.

John Aiken, MAFS relationship expert

To get out the guitar again and teach my son a few chords. I used to play in a band when I was younger, and it's been up in the attic for the last few years. I think now's a great time to get it out and get him acquainted with some Oasis, the Verve and the Killers.

Liz Hayes, 60 Minutes Reporter

I gave up making resolutions years ago, when I realised I just never kept them.

Laura Henshaw, Keep It Cleaner co-founder and CEO

At KIC we tend not to get too fixated on New Year's resolutions because more often than not they can come with too much pressure and they might not be sustainable. I am big on realistic goal setting though.

So, I'll be taking the time between Christmas and NYE to reflect and set goals for 2023. As I said in another article, though, I am keen to read.

Victoria Arbiter, 9Honey royal commentator

I generally don't subscribe to New Year's resolutions as they strike me as a stressful way to begin a fresh slate, but as ever, I'll try to worry less about what other people think. As a self-confessed people pleaser, I'm a work in progress in that regard. I tend to worry too much about everything.

Work and family – dedication to both, 100 per cent of the time. Everything else fits around those two. Family first, though.

I tend not to do New Year's resolutions, as I like to have goals set in place throughout the year, with a plan around achieving them. I also have check-ins to track my progress and I'm now trying to celebrate the small wins along the way.

With that all being said, what I'm currently focused on is finding somewhat of a balance between the hustle culture and slowing down.

I am trying to check in more with my heart, soul and body. Listen more (to myself and others). Become more embodied. Realise 'The Hustle' isn't always healthy and that slowing down is not lazy – rather, it's imperative for optional performance physically, mentally, and emotionally – as well as dive deeper into my spiritual practice.

It's advice I also regularly share with my students during my Peloton yoga and meditation classes. Be kind to yourself. It's OK to have off days. Write down your fitness, movement and health goals to get a clear understanding of what you hope to achieve.

Also, be flexible with the results and realise sometimes our desired results change on the journey to achieving them!
