Missing Californian mum's remains discovered

Remains have been found in the search for a missing Californian mother who disappeared two months ago, with her husband charged over her death.

Heather Gumina, 33, was reported missing after she disappeared from her El Dorado home on July 15.

She had been released from a hospital where she received treatment for a broken collarbone that same day.

In a Facebok post, The El Dorado County Sheriff's Office said remains were found on Friday in Pleasant Valley as they arrested her husband, Anthony Gumina, on an outstanding domestic violence warrant.

"The missing person case of Heather Gumina has transitioned into a homicide investigation," the Facebook post explained.

"On the evening of Sept 6th, Anthony Gumina was arrested on an outstanding no bail warrant for domestic violence. El Dorado County Detectives simultaneously conducted a search warrant in the Pleasant Valley area of El Dorado County.

"During the search, detectives located what is believed to be the remains of Heather Gumina, Anthony Gumina's wife, who was reported missing on July 19th.

"Following the discovery, EDSO detectives arrested Anthony Gumina for homicide. At this time and in order to protect the integrity of this homicide investigation, no further information is being released."

The officers were executing a search warrant when they made the discovery. It isn't known exactly where the remains were found.

Photos released by authorities show Gumina under arrest, sitting on a curb with a small dog on his lap.

The missing mum has been described as "giving" and "loyal" according to KTXL.

"I'm going to grieve for a very long time," her mother, Joanna Russel, told the news outlet. "It's like the world's worst nightmare."

Heather's vehicle was found abandoned in El Dorado County last month, with her husband telling media he felt "like dying inside."

"I do because I didn't protect her," he said at the time.
