'It's our love language': Jules and Guy Sebastian's plans for the festive season

Jules Sebastian is hosting Christmas this year, and for her it's always about "lots of food, always, and family."

"I'm really excited, actually," Jules, 41, tells 9Honey.

Her eBook A Very Jules Christmas, out today, is a step-by-step guide to preparing Christmas lunch.

Each day there is a new tip for readers to follow, including recipes, cocktails, decorating tips and wrapping gifts.

"I'm going to do a ham, lots of sides, desserts, cocktails, of course, to go along with it," she shares of her own plans.

Jules has hosted Christmas before, but she and husband Guy Sebastian also travel home to Adelaide to see their families more often than not.

Christmas at their Sydney home is always special for the couple and their children Hudson, 11, and Archer, nine.

"That's what I want for myself and my family," she says.

"I want to wake up in my own bed, put the Christmas presents under my own tree and have everyone over. And I really enjoy it. I really like hosting.

"We're constantly hosting people over at the house. I think it's our love language – sharing food, cooking food, making sure people are full.

"And I just love that moment when people walk into the house and everything's set. The candles are burning, the Christmas tree lights are twinkling, the tablescape is perfectly done, there's a smell of something in the air.

"I like that for myself when I'm being hosted, but I love to make people feel that way, and I think Christmas is the time to do it.

"It's just such a special, beautiful time of the year where everyone comes together."

Each year, Jules and her family remember her brother Andrew, who died by suicide the day after their wedding on May 17, 2008.

They miss him terribly, "especially on those big days", she says.

"I wonder what it would be like if he was here. He's never met my kids, all that kind of thing," she says.

"But also, on the flip side, you just also want to create good memories for his kids and so just to make sure that they're having a great day."

They always "do a cheers to him" and try and remember happier times.

Jules makes sure to have some nibbles ready for guests upon their arrival "so people aren't starving, and they're not eating on an empty stomach and they're not hangry."

She says her motto when it comes to dealing with Christmas stress is that 'everything always works out."

"It's your family. They don't care. They don't care if it's not perfectly timed and whatever," she says.

"You're not running a restaurant."
