Five blanket storage hacks that double as stylish décor
Winter means an abundance of blankets all over the sofas and beds, which sounds cosy but can become a storage issue pretty quickly.
To prevent the floor becoming a sea of throws, there are some simple ways you can store blankets so they're out of the way but still within easy reach.
And they look good too, with many doubling as a decorative feature.

Blanket ladder
Decorative ladders are both stylish and functional and work brilliantly for storing blankets and throws in living rooms and bedrooms.
Ikea sells the vilto towel stand in black and birch colours for $49. It stands at 150cm tall and 57cm wide, so you can fit at least four blankets on it. Lean against a wall near the sofa or bed for easy reach.

The vilto towel stand does come with a pouch on the top railing but this can be removed or used for extra remotes that need a home.
If the Ikea towel stand isn't your style there are plenty of other decorative ladders available from other homewares stores. Or remove the front from a regular ladder and upcycle that.

Square cushion hack
Make the sofa tidy and add a stylish new cushion to your sofa at the same time by folding your blanket into a square cushion shape when you don't need it.
Home hacks guru Jacqueline Stein demonstrated the folding process on TikTok and it couldn't be easier.

"Fold the blanket in half, then into long thirds. Fold ONE end a single time and leave for now. Roll or fold the OTHER end all the way until you reach the original fold/pocket," she instructed.
"On the original side, lift up the middle of the fold and tuck the (now rolled) side of the blanket into it, making a neat, pillow-like shape! Now your extra blankets are hidden in plain sight—plus, it's the perfect small space hack for a tidy home."
Knot cushion hack
If a square cushion shape isn't your style, you can also roll your blanket into a knot-shape cushion.
Evelyn, also a home hacks guru who shares her tips and tricks on the TikTok account @everydaywithevelyn, showed how to turn a blanket into a knot cushion in a video.
"Limited on storage? Well, here's a blanket hack for ya! Just use this hack then store your throws on your furniture until ready to use," she captioned the TikTok post.

To start lay your blanket out on your bed or another flat surface and then roll up from both ends until they meet in the middle.
Then take the rolled up blanket and fold one end over the other before tucking one side under and tightening into a knot. Tuck in one of the long ends, followed by the other long end until everything is in a knotted ball.

Towel stand
Similar to the ladder hack but perhaps a bit more sturdy, towel stands with multiple rails are perfect for draping blankets over in the living room.
Kmart has one for $25 with a shelf at the bottom, however the rails are at the one level so it might not be the most decorative choice.

For a decorative option with three tiered rails, a shelf at the bottom and a rustic look, both Bunnings and Big W marketplaces have the Costway wooden towel rack for $49.95.
Table basket
The ultimate in storage hacks is a piece of furniture that has storage inside it and there are plenty out there to choose from.
