Groom dies just hours after wedding following shock cancer diagnosis

A groom has tragically passed away just hours after he married the woman of his dreams, following a shock cancer diagnosis.

The bride is now planning her husband's funeral.

Scott Plumley and Michelle White, from Bristol in the UK, were slowly planning their dream wedding when the 41-year-old collapsed and was rushed to hospital.

He had previously been complaining of suffering bad indigestion and was given medication to treat stomach ulcers, the Bristol Post reports.

But after his admission to hospital, doctors diagnosed Plumley with Stage 4 cancer of the oesophagus.

"Because they caught it late, it had already spread to his liver and had destroyed that, and there was nothing they could do," White says.

"I asked how long, expecting them to say 'a couple of months' or something, so I could bring him home, but they said, 'no it will be weeks at most, in fact, it could be just days'.

"They said there was nothing they could do, no chemo or anything, just palliative care."

Given Plumley's diagnosis, the couple decided to get married straight away.

"We were already engaged - we got engaged in July last year - and we were planning to get married, saving up for it. I had a few bits and bobs bought for when the day came," White says.

She began calling in friends and family from across the country, ensuring they would see her fiancé before he died.

White also arranged for the registrar to come to the hospital to perform the ceremony.

The bride had around 20 hours to plan their wedding and called in favours from family and friends, including a neighbour who did her hair.

Their wedding took place in a quiet ward with Plumley seated in a wheelchair.

"He was so strong, really battling being obviously in pain," White says.

"He could hardly speak, but when they asked 'Do you take this woman' when we were saying our vows, he answered loudly: 'I sure do'.

"He kept his sense of humour throughout - and he had a great sense of humour."

But sadly, just a few hours into their wedding night his condition deteriorated.

He passed away just 13 hours after they became husband and wife.

"I sat with him, holding his hand and he smiled, and kept saying he was sorry and 'I love you'.

"I was holding him and kissing him and he took three gasps of breath and I said 'It’s ok baby, I will be fine, you can now, and get out of the pain'.

"I thought I had 20 or 30 years with him. He made me so happy for the last two years."
