Cheeky way to get around the Freddo Frog and Caramello Koala price rise

Aussies have been left shocked by the price increase coming for some of our nation's most beloved chocolates.

This morning, Cadbury announced both Freddo Frogs and Caramello Koalas are set to double in price.

Consequently, treats that once cost $1 each on grocery store shelves will now cost $2 each – but there are ways to get them for less.

Cadbury announced the news via a statement on its social media pages, explaining the price jump resulted from an increase in the cost of ingredients, particularly cocoa.

The company didn't mention that you can still buy the chocolate at a reduced price.

"Our Freddo Frogs and Caramello Koalas have delighted chocolate lovers for generations," a Cadbury spokesperson wrote.

"Due to the record global price of cocoa, and increased input costs, we have adjusted the RRP from $1 to $2."

Instead of purchasing standard Freddo Frogs and Caramello Koalas for $2 ($5.71 per 100g), you can buy their share bags, which include 12 Mini Bars for $6 ($4.17 per 100g).

The statement released by Cadbury acknowledged that you can purchase these chocolates for less with this method.

"Share bags of Freddos and Caramello Koalas are also available and offer great value," it read.

It remains unknown why the confectionary company has only changed the price of its individual chocolates and not of the share bags.

The spokesperson added that the company appreciates customers' understanding and will continue to "strive to deliver the high-quality chocolate you love, made with the best local ingredients."

While the price hike has caused a frenzy, the rest of Cadbury's chocolates seem safe for now.

There has been no word on whether the increased price of cocoa will affect the cost of any other treats owned by the brand.

Now, customers wanting a sweet treat in the form of a Freddo Frog or Caramello Koala will have to look for better value in share bags.
