A Woolworths customer couldn't believe their eyes when they purchased some goods from the supermarket giant in recent weeks.

But it wasn't over the price of the products, but rather the extreme length of the receipt.

They shared a photo of said receipt on Reddit, alongside a 30cm ruler for reference.

"Woolies receipts are getting a bit out of hand," the post was captioned.

The customer spent approximately $42 in the store at the time, which barely took up any space at all.

But the bottom of the receipt featured the likes of BWS vouchers and a Disney Discs coupon – which might be handy for some, but definitely not for everyone.

The length and wastage no doubt baffled customers, but others pointed out that there is a way to ensure you never receive such a lengthy slip of paper again.

"You can opt for electronic receipts. If you get the Everyday Rewards app they are saved on there so you can always access them," one person commented.

"I get a slip of paper at the self checkout because I went paperless. Brilliant move, Woolworths," another said.

I tried it myself, and you can indeed opt out of receiving paper receipts if you just login to your Everyday Rewards account online.

In a statement shared with 9honey, a Woolworths spokesperson said: "An increasing number of customers are choosing to do away with paper receipts altogether in favour of digital eReceipts available via the Everyday Rewards app.

"With over 4.2 million shoppers now opting out of paper receipts, we're saving on average 364 kilometres of paper every month across the Woolworths Group."

While it doesn't exactly help those who aren't savvy with using apps, it's a positive alternative that I was glad to see being offered for those who look.
