You're not imagining it, Easter chocolate does taste better than regular chocolate.

While there's no difference in recipe, there is a difference in shape, which changes the way our brains perceive taste, according to a resurfaced study from the British Medical Journal.

The study found that the human brain perceives round food objects to be creamier than square food.

Easter chocolate is perceived to be tastier because it's round, whereas regular chocolate is square.

There's no object rounder than an egg, so when we eat a chocolate egg, it tricks our brains into thinking it's way creamier than usual.

But that's not the only thing that makes a difference in taste.

Easter eggs are much thinner, making them melt quicker and releasing the taste of the chocolate faster, leading to immediate satisfaction.

They also smell stronger because the thinner build allows the smell to radiate out of the chocolate quicker than the thick blocks.

There's also the nostalgic aspect, as Easter eggs are a seasonal treat we grew up with, so eating them fills a small craving in our hearts.

However, it's not all psychological. Some brand actually change their chocolate recipe when they make their Easter eggs.

"We love surprising our customers, the blend of our cocoa beans is slightly different to regular chocolate," Haiges Head Chocolatier Ben Kolly told 9News.

Cadbury Chocolate eggs contain nearly exactly the same ingredients as their regular block, so the tastiness of their hollow eggs comes down to the thinness of the chocolate.

By the time easter is over, Cadbury alone will have sold more than 450 million Chocolate Easter eggs.
