The three-ingredient dessert fans are making to honour Dolly Parton
As tributes continue to flood social media, Dolly Parton fans have found a surprising – and delicious – way to honour the late music legend.
A three-ingredient dessert made famous by Parton’s character in Steel Magnolias, beauty salon owner Truvy Jones, is trending on TikTok, with creators filming themselves making it as the star’s voice narrates the recipe.

As Truvy explains in a memorable scene from the tear-jerking 1989 movie, the ‘Cuppa Cuppa Cuppa Cake’ is so simple, “you don’t need to write [it] down”.
Hint: it’s all in the name.
“That’s a cup of flour, a cup of sugar, a cup of fruit cocktail with the juice, and you mix and bake at 350 until gold and bubbly,” she says.
‘Fruit cocktail’ is what we Aussies call a tin of fruit salad, while 350F is roughly 180C.
While it’s not specified in the movie, many foodies have noted the recipe works best with self-raising flour and a bake time of 30-40 minutes.
The result is a warm, fruit cobbler-like dish that is best served with ice cream, according to the film.
When Clairee (Olympia Dukakis) remarks that it sounds “awfully rich”, Truvy replies, “It is, so I serve it over ice cream to cut the sweetness.”
The recipe not only featured in the movie, but was reportedly also printed in the Jolene singer’s first cookbook, Dolly’s Dixie Fixin’s.

If the method sounds familiar, that’s because it’s very similar to the two-ingredient dessert that’s taken Aussies by storm recently – a combination of Kingston biscuits and a tin of peaches in juice, baked in a dish.
The Cuppa Cuppa Cuppa cake has gone viral online before, and has resurfaced in the days since Parton’s death on August 25, with many considering it a fitting tribute to the singer, actress, philanthropist and style icon.
“Made a cuppa cuppa cake in honour of the queen herself,” one creator, @ozellaspam, captioned her video.
“Honouring the memory of a literal angel on earth the best way I know how,” @therealvirgokitchenwrote, adding that she was also watching Steel Magnolias for the “eleventy billionth time”.
It’s certainly the sweetest of all the tributes to the music icon. Vale, Dolly.
