Coles has released a new flavour of its hot roast chook for a limited time only.

Peri peri roast chicken is now available in Coles supermarkets nationwide, a spicy twist on the popular classic.

The new Portuguese-inspired roast chicken easily complements a number of delicious sides and can level up recipes like wraps, loaded peri peri chips or a classic roast chicken roll.

Flavours in the new Peri Peri hot roast chicken include chilli, garlic, sweet paprika, oregano, cumin, and lemon.

Coles General Manager Meat, Deli and Seafood Karen O'Connor said the limited-edition roast chicken had been developed to help customers bring a bold new flavour into their weeknight meal rotation.

"Our RSPCA approved hot roast chicken is an Aussie classic, so we're always looking for new ways to delight customers with flavours they'll love," she said.

"It's our second highest selling product across the country, and last year we sold more than 20 million of our RSPCA approved hot roast chickens.

Both Coles and Woolworths sold approximately 20 million hot roast chickens each in 2025.

A recent viral food trend saw supermarket shoppers using roast chickens to create a meal in a bag.

The recipe has made the rounds all around the world, but Aussie TikTok creator Kel Norman shared her version using a Coles chicken.

She began by taking the chicken out of the bag and separating the meat from the bone, making sure to keep the juices in the bottom of the bag.

Norman then added white rice into the bag, scallions, and the chicken meat.

She chose to add furikake seasoning and soy sauce before gently shaking the bag to mix it all up, before serving it in a bowl.

Normal added some Japanese BBQ sauce to the top as she dug in. Other recipes online have made different Asian-inspired twists.
